Due early July.
The final shortlist is:
Delphi Rae
Elsie Mai

My heart says Delphi but I don't know if it's just too unusual. I don't want her to hate her name. DP is equally fond of both so is letting me have the final say. Surname is a common 2 syllable name beginning with L.

Would love your opinions!

Eurgh the Mai spelling gives me the rage
It looks like it should be pronounced my not may, like Kai
I don't know who decided it was an alternative spelling to May or why it's accepted
Really annoys me - obviously BlushGrin

GoingArseforTit · 04/05/2017 16:05

Delphi Rae is a beautiful name. Congratulations Smile

mum2be2boys · 04/05/2017 16:57

Another vote for Delphi Rae here. Beautiful name and such a beautiful part of Greece too :-)

FluffyBathTowel · 04/05/2017 17:04

Deliphi is lovely but I hate Rae

MadMags · 04/05/2017 17:09

Would it be Delphine shortened to Delphi?

Both are lovely!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/05/2017 17:29

❤️ Delphie Rae.

florascotianew · 04/05/2017 18:31

Delphine (meaning = dolphin) is very pretty and can easily be shortened to Delphie, but with Dephi, as in ancient Greece, one is getting into pretty deep waters. You may be perfectly happy with this; it's not for me to comment.

As I'm sure you know, Delphi in Greece was home to a female oracle who was brought out and made stoned by breathing the poisonous/hallucinogenic fumes from burning laurel or similar leaves (and occasionally died from their effects. Am honestly not sure how exploitative this was.). The word 'Delphi' itself means 'womb' or, as later interpreted, 'navel'...in other words, the early Mediterranean peoples' centre of the world.

AngelicaSchuylerChurch · 04/05/2017 18:48

Mai only if you're Welsh and pronouncing it 'my' - please!

SoftBlocks · 04/05/2017 18:50

Delphi. Maybe Delphine nn Delphi?

neddle · 04/05/2017 18:51

Loving Delphi. Go for it! If you love it then it's right. All my kids have unusual names and they really suit them. People have got used to them now.

FiftyShadesOfDuckEggBlue · 04/05/2017 19:06

I might be the only one that prefers Elsie!

frazzlebedazzle · 04/05/2017 19:13

I prefer Elsie too. Yes it's quite commonly used, but I'm not sure about Delphi at all! ConfusedI'd definitely use Delphine and Delphi as a shortening if you do go with that one.

Agree either Rae or Mae, don't like the ai spelling.

Congratulations!

Redpramlady · 04/05/2017 19:57

Delphi! Pretty and unusual!

MamaTT · 04/05/2017 20:29

Should have said - yes we're Welsh (Welsh is DPs first language), hence the Mai.
We would have liked a Welsh name but he reckons I can't pronounce any of them properly Blush . He is from a Welsh speaking community and I barely knew enough Welsh to get me through my Welsh
GCSE.

Definitely set on Delphi now. Not keen on Delphine. The Rae is not set in stone. Open to further suggestions. Middle names stress me out. I didn't give DS one for this reason.

MadMags · 04/05/2017 20:34

Does she need one?!

CricketFishieDHAndI · 04/05/2017 20:42

I don't have a middle name. Seeing as my first name is long (it is) my parents thought I wouldn't need one.

I personally used to wish I had a middle name. Simply because my female classmates used to have these monogrammed accessories and I was terribly jealous (seeing as I only had two letters...)

MommaGee · 04/05/2017 20:43

Delphi Rae is a bit Lana Del Rey sounding.

I prefer Delphi Rose as others have said.

Not a fan of Elsie or Mai.

Lemondrop09 · 04/05/2017 22:37

I'd stick with Rae. I think Delphi Rae is very cool

averythinline · 05/05/2017 09:28

As you have welsh connections
Delphi Mai
Delphi Seren
Delphi Megs

I've always like the Welsh version of Rose-
Delphi Rhosyn

GuinessPunch · 05/05/2017 09:29

I just like Rae.

Loyly · 05/05/2017 09:33

If middle names stress you out and you didn't give your son a middle name, just don't give Delphi one.

Rockaby · 05/05/2017 11:31

I agree with Loyly. You don't have to bother with a middle name. They're definitely optional Smile.

MadMags · 05/05/2017 16:16

If you insist on a middle name, I'd still with one syllable!
