Vada?

Do you like the name Vada? Baby girl is due any day and we really like this name. Her brother is called Ira. Are Ira and Vada too similar or do they go well?

What about Vela, Vasa, Velda, Velia, Valda, Vana, Varda or Vilma?

I personally love Ada (currently on of our top choices for DC2).

Surely your DH wouldn't be able to resist saying "I am your father" in a Darth Vader voice.

I thought Polari too, but doubt that will be a playground reference in 2020.

My girl is Vida and we have had a lot of lovely comments about it (as well as a few 'interesting name' type comments!) A few people have said it reminds them if My Girl too.
I am so glad we had the guts to go ahead with it, had a wobble when she was born but it suits her so perfectly and people just get used to it. I know I would have regretted it massively if chickened out!

Vada is such a cool character in My Girl, I can see why you like it.

LOVE this name. No one will even think of Darth with a baby girl called Vada so I say go with it if you truly love it as any name will conjure up ridicule if people really want to find it. My DD has a name with a truly awful nickname that people on here have vetoed for that reason and it has never been suggested EVER and she is almost a teen so I'm so glad I went with the name I adored.
The trouble with asking on here is you doubt what you like so don't mention in rl you like this name and when you announce it no one will blink but plenty will try to talk you out of it if you ask before she's born.

I've never seen My Girl, or heard of the character. I would most definitely think of Darth Vader, tbh!

She'll have to talk about Star Wars every day of her life.

I wouldn't use it. Star Wars is a thousand times better known than My Girl.

My girl is nearly a year old now and we did use the name Vada. We didn’t mention it in rl until she was born, and once she was, we decided that was the name for her. No-one really raised an eyebrow and there’s been very few Star Wars comments in the past year. Overall, very happy we went with it!
