I already have a Lily, but we can't decide between Poppy and Jessica (shortened to Jessie)

What would your choice be?

A lily AND a poppy might be a bit too flowery?

crapfatbanana · 23/03/2017 22:07

Jessie! It's beautiful.

My DD Lily was nearly a Jessie and we used it as one of her middle names.

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/03/2017 22:08

Not Poppy
( unless born on November 11th )

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2017 22:09

Jessica nn Jessie is lovely.

I agree with a pp that two flower names might be a bit much, and I also find Poppy much too cutesy.

Lily and Jessie would be very nice together.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/03/2017 22:27

Poppy.

Epipgab · 23/03/2017 23:26

Poppy

SuperBeagle · 23/03/2017 23:37

Jessie. Smile

I like it more than Jessica.

I know a Jessie and she's just about the funniest person I think I've ever met, so good associations for me!

Poppy is fine too, but a Lily and a Poppy looks like it's a theme, and you couldn't really then go on to name a third (hypothetical) child Sarah, for example.

Sophronia · 24/03/2017 01:03

Jessie

KoalaDownUnder · 24/03/2017 01:27

Jessie.

reuset · 24/03/2017 01:54

Jessica (Jessie)
Poppy I can't warm to so much, it's nearly always shortened to pop or pops, which to me is the name of a person's grandfather.

ColourfulOrangex · 24/03/2017 09:43

I love the name Jessie, was on a list for my daughter but where i live there is a little boy who is a little bit difficult and constantly running off so his mum will scream Jessie and now it sends shivers down me lol if it wasn't for that then i would definitely have a Jessie but just as Jessie not Jessica

I think a Lily and Poppy would make it look like you are going for a flower theme and could make it difficult in the future if you have any more DC

Rockaby · 24/03/2017 12:24

Jessie by miles and miles for me. It's very nice.

Jessie is much nicer than Ploppy.

OneSecondAfter · 24/03/2017 19:20

I prefer Jessica anyway, but since you have a daughter called Lily, it really HAS to be Jessie/Jessica. Lily and Poppy is just too much. Leave that kind of stuff to celebrities..

Redpramlady · 25/03/2017 00:11

Jessica jess Jessie
Lovely

Cleebope · 25/03/2017 00:13

Jessie is gorgeous

BuckingFrolicks2 · 25/03/2017 00:15

Are you having a cat?

I cannot imagine eg prime minister poppy, or Dr Poppy

Joeybee · 25/03/2017 04:51

Jessica...Lily and Poppy is a little too floral and cutesy. Plus Jessica can be shortened to lots of lovely names - Jay, Jess, Jessy/Jessie....

Reow · 25/03/2017 11:25

Jessie.

I know about 9 babies named Poppy.

harderandharder2breathe · 25/03/2017 16:13

Poppy

I know sisters called lily and poppy. I think because they're such popular names it doesn't feel as overly matchey as if both were really unusual and on the same theme. They go together nicely

mum2be2boys · 25/03/2017 17:39

Jessica nn Jessie. I think it is a beautiful name and much less common in our area than Poppy.

I also know one dog and two cats called Poppy, so it will always be a pet name to me!

ChequeredPasta · 25/03/2017 22:09

Buckingfrolicks - I work in the NHS. I know several Dr Poppy's, Dr Lily's, Dr Jessica's and Dr Rosie. They aren't all white middle class men called John Hmm
Why do you think having a name that identifies you as female means you can't have a high status job? Do you generally have a low opinion of women?
returns to point
OP - they are both lovely. Which goes better with your surname?

woohooyeehoo · 25/03/2017 22:15

Jessica for me and then whatever natural shortening.

I love Jesse for a boy.

woohooyeehoo · 25/03/2017 22:16

You can't imagine a prime minister Poppy because it's generally a little girls name in 2017, you probably can't imagine a PM Isla either for the same reason.
