Which do you prefer and why?

Jedediah sounds stuttery.

Prefer Otis, though there is the lift issue.

MixedGrill · 11/02/2017 23:08

How can everyone be going on about lifts, and not Otis Redding?

No soul.

JanuaryJuniper · 11/02/2017 23:12

The lift thing doesn't bother me in the slightest that's just nitpicking really, it was a name way before it was ever a lift.....

Jack dog
Jacob crackers
Ben uncle

Doesn't stop those names being usable and hugely popular! Smile

Jedidiah is awful. It sounds like the name of an Amish person. So stereotypically Biblical American.

Otis is lovely.

Middleoftheroad · 12/02/2017 08:43

Sorry but the remind me of Hodfearing redneck names

thebakerwithboobs · 12/02/2017 09:27

Jed is lovely. Otis is lovely but does also remind me of Otis the Aardvark (CBBC circa 1998)

ProfAnnieT · 12/02/2017 09:38

Jebediah is easier on the tongue. Are you choosing Jedidiah just to have the Jed/Jedi? Jed is fine on it's own.

What about Obediah, Obi for short? Still the Star Wars connection if that's what you were going for.

Be mindful that with the "diah" ending, you are likely to get "diarrhoea" nicknames.

Purplebluebird · 12/02/2017 09:47

Otis

MixedGrill · 12/02/2017 09:49

Also, isn't the usual spelling Jedediah? Not Jedidiah?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/02/2017 10:51

Do you have any other names that you both like OP ?

mateysmum · 12/02/2017 11:00

No to Jedidiah. Sounds like you have a stammer and for me it is just a clumsy word. Plain Jed or Otis are much better.

Notapodling · 12/02/2017 11:02

I like Jedidiah but both are lovely.

smashyourglasses · 12/02/2017 11:09

Are you from the deep south?

Oysterbabe · 12/02/2017 11:34

Otis. I really don't like Jedediah.

MrsMeeseeks · 12/02/2017 13:22

Otis! Jedediah is tricky to say and spell.

n0ne · 12/02/2017 15:16

I love Otis! It's on my boy list this time round

Hoppinggreen · 12/02/2017 15:18

Jedidiah sounds like he wears dungarees and a straw hat and lives on a farm in America.
Love Otis though

JanuaryJuniper · 12/02/2017 15:42

So it would seem Otis is a firm favourite over Jedidiah. It is so difficult to decide. We do have a few other names on the list.

harderandharder2breathe · 12/02/2017 16:29

Jebediah is much nicer than Jedidiah

I am also the generation who have Otis the Aardvark associations but much prefer Otis. The lift thing is a ridiculous reason! And his peers will never have heard of the aardvark

Oysterbabe · 12/02/2017 16:53

I immediately think Jebediah Springfield. But I may have watched too much Simpsons.

MiniMaxi · 12/02/2017 19:21

How about Jed short for Jared, OP?

BananaDaiquiri · 12/02/2017 19:44

I love Otis, really cool. Agree with pps who mentioned bible belt. First thing that came to mind when I saw Jedidiah was the Duggar family.

10Betty10 · 12/02/2017 20:33

Love Otis. I feel like an Otis would be a lot cooler than a Jedidiah.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 12/02/2017 20:36

Otis was our top choice until DH's mate named his DS that. We ended up with a name I love even more.

yeOldeTrout · 12/02/2017 20:37

I have a firm Noooooooooooooooo response to both names in OP.

Jared/Jed is fine.
