Little boy is 2 days old. Looking for opinions on Jack and Caspian. Which would you go for? Thank you x

It was originally a nick name for John? Who knew! Wink

Jack gets my vote. Caspian makes me think somebody spotted it in C. S. Lewis and thought they'd use it. It's just OK, I'm quite indifferent to it as a name.

What are the 'many negative connotations of Jack' positiv?

RainbowJack · 11/02/2017 17:37

Caspian.

Too many Jacks.

LemonBreeland · 11/02/2017 17:38

Caspian. Great name and Jack is sooo boring and overused

TempsPerdu · 11/02/2017 18:08

I'd definitely choose Caspian over Jack, which I find incredibly dull and bland without quite being a true 'classic' like e.g. William or Edward. Prefer both Caspar and Cassian to Caspian though - just think they sound a bit stronger, as the 'sp' in Caspian has a bit of a lispy quality to it. Probably just me though! 🙂

TempsPerdu · 11/02/2017 18:13

Actually, I just realised that Caspar has the same 'sp' sound as Caspian so my previous comment sounds a bit random! Think it must be the combination of sp and ian together that makes it sound a bit 'precious' to my ears - slightly more feminine-sounding? Still better than Jack though!

Crunchyside · 11/02/2017 18:15

Caspian has way more character! Jack is boring.

reuset · 11/02/2017 18:25

Jack is still a classic, though. Hundreds of years as one of the popular names in England.

reuset · 11/02/2017 18:26

That was to somebody who posted about 'true' classics.

Juveniledelinquent · 11/02/2017 18:30

100% Jack

TempsPerdu · 11/02/2017 18:53

I think that was me reuset? Smile Yes it's arguable (and it's definitely more classic than Caspian!), but I guess I meant that Jack feels a bit less timeless and more susceptible to trends than some others, maybe because it was traditionally a nickname for John - just a slightly different feel to it I suppose. A Jack would have certainly been a novelty when I was at school in the '80s in a way that William/James/Edward weren't.

EweAreHere · 11/02/2017 18:57

Jack is nice, but really, really popular.

Caspian, not as convinced.

What about Jasper, kind of a cross of the two.

AlmaMartyr · 11/02/2017 19:02

Caspian. Jack is so dull.
