Hi so we've narrowed our list to

Sowenna
Lowenna
Elowen
Eseld
Rosenwyn
Lamorna
Sennen

We hope to move to Cornwall soon. Are there any of these names that we should strike off as a no no and in particular any that would make people in Cornwall roll their eyes

Sennen x

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/02/2017 20:34

I love Ysella, never heard that name before.
Loveday is fab, I agree !

ChrissyHynde · 06/02/2017 20:39

Sennen x

penguincrumble · 06/02/2017 20:42

Sennen Kot?

Frankiefarr · 06/02/2017 20:53

Thanks for all your input. Never heard Morenwyn before. We love Rosenwyn too but I hate Ros as a nick name

So push for Rose as a nickname if you can?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/02/2017 21:30

Yes, Rose or Rosie, I dislike Ros/z too.

Noodlehair · 06/02/2017 21:37

Cornish maid here too!

Sowenna - never heard of it but not keen, reminds me of pigs I'm afraid

Sennen - soo many Sennens down here and I'm not keen personally

Lamorna and Lowenna - again these are really common here and again not my cup of tea.

The rest are all pretty enough, but Rosenwyn is my favourite by a mile.

(I'm a Loveday fan, dd1 has it as her middle name)

Contrary to everyone else, I really like Eseld. Is it a form of Isolde or the Welsh Esyllt?

Bellaposy · 06/02/2017 21:38

Elowen is beautiful.

Waterfeature · 06/02/2017 22:16

I've got Cornish ancestors .
Tamsin features heavily. Pretty!

Katielou75 · 06/02/2017 23:17

I like Lowenna and Sennen. When I was a child I planned to called my children Veryan and Gwithian after Cornish places but never had the guts to go through with it as an adult! .

PortiaCastis · 06/02/2017 23:25

Yet another Cornish maid and don't like sennen or lamorna or sowenna because
sennen is a place near where I live
Lamorna also a place
Sowenna sounds like a pig

Do like Rosenwyn

sycamore54321 · 07/02/2017 02:42

If there is any chance you will move to Ireland in the future, I'd skip Sennen as Senan (without the double N) is a boys' name here.

Not familiar with Cornish names but I must ask how Loveday is pronounced. Surely not Love Day like the two words?

Noodlehair · 07/02/2017 07:44

Sycamore yes it is Love Day but without a gap in between the two words!

Elbi · 07/02/2017 13:55

Eseld is lovely!

NC1nightstand · 07/02/2017 14:00

And to you waterfeature! Grin

Marcipex · 07/02/2017 22:22

I know a boy called Sennen.

Sowenna is awful, sorry.

I likeElowen, Rowenna, Tamsin and Loveday.

Frankiefarr · 08/02/2017 14:13

I tried out Elowen on the family and got comments beck about it sounding all lord of the Rings :(

OP posts:
Marcipex · 08/02/2017 14:38

Elowen is kind of LOTR. I can see what they mean, still nice tho.

PrancerForHoney · 08/02/2017 14:49

We have a Tamar in our family. So called as we are originally from Liskeard then emigrated to Devon over the river Grin I also have cousin called Chesten .

reynoldsnumber · 08/02/2017 23:02
