Hmmm, forgive my millionth name thread. We are really really struggling to choose a name for DD. We each have long lists of names we like but none we both like/love!

What do you think of Xanthe? Too out there? Pretentious? I love that it is an ancient Greek name.

Other possibles are:

Tess
Camilla
Elena

Remit (to go with DS' name) is something classic / not modern but not too popular. Xanthe may be pushing that definition (its classic but surely in an extreme way)?

It's okay, my opinion is coloured by knowing the most objectionable women who has a daughter called Xanthe. She proudly tells me how awful it is to be called a name like Sarah and how unusual Xanthe is.

What about Ianthe? Means violet flower in Greek.

Really like Xanthe - beautiful name.

Katietwinmum · 04/02/2017 16:07

Lovely name- knew a hairdresser called Xanthe and she was a lovely lady! Camilla seen really rather posh to me but I live in Scotland so there aren't many around ! I just automatically think Parker Bowles

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/02/2017 16:36

Eleni is lovely too.

BlackbirdSingsInTheDeadOfNight · 04/02/2017 17:20

It's our dog's name (please don't let that put you off - she's a very beautiful dog biased and we have yet to meet any other canine Xanthes!).

The only thing I'd say is that we are always a bit surprised by the number of people who've never heard the name before, or see it written down and don't know how to pronounce it - so it's a less 'usual' name than we'd thought. It takes frequent spelling out when people look at us blankly!

Pretty. I bet she'll get a few weird mispronunciations along the way though!

Kazzawazza69 · 04/02/2017 20:55

Love it x

How about Evadne?

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/02/2017 02:23

I forgot to say that I do like the name Xanthe, and Eleni, Ariadne, Athene. There seem to be a lot of nice Greek names.
