Angel for a boy

Not for a baby of mine at the moment, sadly. But there was a little boy called Angel mentioned in today's Metro. I think it's lovely. What do you think?

Interesting views. Almost unanimously No...

Can't believe I hadn't thought about a spotty teenage Angel...! Mind you, a spotty teenage anything isn't too appealing. Anyway, I wasn't planning to do it IRL!!

Just no.

All I can think is that by Sod's Law his childhood will be full of "Angel, stop hitting your sister!" "Angel, don't throw your food!"

I seem to remember it being a child's name on 'My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding' and think it might be a traveller's name of choice.

Which of course is just smashing, if that's your thing...

Can't believe only two posters have mentioned Buffy!

Not at all keen on it for a boy. Just thinking of the poor lad when he's 16 and he's gawky, spotty, monosyllabic and probably the total opposite of an angel. Also embarrassing being called by name on the register, for a job interview etc.

I've known a few Angel girls. Two were from Travelling families and a couple were from very devout Catholic families, so I think you might be right Arriette But I do really think people would see it as a girls name.

No, there is one at the local secondary school and he is horribly teased.

I know an adult male Angel and it never occurred to me that it's 'odd' until now! I just accepted it as his name. Yet dc3 has a female Angel in her class so I know it as a girls name too...

It's a very content and happy little bubble I float about in Blush

I think its awful for any human, but if given to a boy (in an English speaking country) I'd have to assume the parents didn't like them.

WatchingFromTheWings · 31/01/2017 22:33

The only male Angel I know is the bloke from Tess of the D'Urbervilles. So that would put me off.

I know two South American Angels, pronounced, roughly, An-GELL, with a hard 'g'. To the best of my knowledge it's a perfectly normal boy's name for Spanish speakers...?
