Just that really - love them both and can't decide which I prefer!

Both gorgeous! Can't decide sorry OP, but I love your style Smile

Flora

Stonewash · 28/01/2017 11:07

Susannah

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/01/2017 11:07

Flora. Love this name.

Pemba · 28/01/2017 14:11

Flora is nice, but Susannah is gorgeous. An underused classic, with such a wide choice of short forms - Susie, Sukey, Zanna, etc.

I'm a flora and I quite like it now. I was teased about the margarine connotations as a child, so didn't really like it then, but I'd never heard "flora spreads easily" until I started reading mumsnet name threads! I think that must have been a really old advert? I do find it a bit annoying that people mistake my name for Laura (even when I've just repeated it clearly... the name flora just isn't on some people's radar) but overall now that I'm an adult I'd rather be called flora than something "boring" for want for a better word. I know we all disagree on which names are boring though and I'm not implying that Susannah is boring - I like Susannah.

jesstar · 28/01/2017 14:16

Fleur?

PostTruthEra · 28/01/2017 14:18

Susannah. Flora seems to be popular round here. Both pretty names though.

daisydaisychain · 28/01/2017 14:37

I like both! They're both pretty names. Probably have a preference for Susannah - and no margarine connotations is a bonus. Re popularity, I don't know that flora is popular in the national stats, but it did feature on the times or telegraph list of top names. I think of Susannah as popularish for all ages ranges but not trendy.

autumngold6 · 28/01/2017 15:27

Susannah - it's my daughter's name. She's 25 and there was never another girl by the same name at her schools even though they were very large schools. In fact we do not know anyone else with that name. If you look at the naming statistics for England and Wales it is rarely used. Don't know why as it's a lovely name.

Uhohmummy · 28/01/2017 21:03

Thanks for all the responses! I'm not bothered about the margarine connection of Flora as I've always thought of it as a name first and love the Roman goddess/flower connotations. That said DH can't get past the margarine thing so we'll probably go for Susannah for that reason. Glad to hear it's mumsnet approved! Wink

I'm cuddling a tiny baby Flora. I love her name so much 🙂

BeakyFlapdoodle · 29/01/2017 14:41

Also, the margarine thing is a bit of an odd connection. What about little girls called Sky after the TV or boys called Felix after the cat food?

AllTheLight · 29/01/2017 14:41

Susannah

JunebabyT · 29/01/2017 17:41

Flora

pilates · 29/01/2017 17:54

In my day (a long time ago) Flora was used to describe a loose girl as in she spreads her legs easily. I know not very nice 🙁

reuset · 29/01/2017 18:40

Difficult. Susannah, just.

Bringbacksummer · 29/01/2017 19:19

I like both but I don't like Flora being shortened to Flo so that is an offput for me, so I vote Susannah :)

Kazzawazza69 · 29/01/2017 19:25

I love Flora. Susannah just doesn't do it for me personally.

Aquamarine1029 · 31/01/2017 03:54

Flora. My great aunt Flora was one of the most remarkable woman I've ever known. It's beautiful.

handonhip · 31/01/2017 07:27

Susannah--a lovely sound. It's very underused, too, in my opinion.

KlingybunFistelvase · 31/01/2017 13:07

Susannah. Flora reminds me of gut flora and margarine a bit. Flora have a vegan margarine now which is de rigueur I think!

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/01/2017 13:22

Susannah. By several country miles.

Nonameyet1 · 31/01/2017 20:52

I know a Flora nn Flossie and I think it's gorgeous!

Rollonjanuary · 02/02/2017 23:27

I have a Flora and love her name more as time passes. The margarine thing never crosses my mind- really, how long ago was that ad campaign?!
