I like the name Luna thanks to Harry Potter but I have been set on Thea for a while. Luna, Thea or maybe even Aurora

Nah. Anything goes now, doesn't it?

I like it, fwiw.

MrsBlennerhassett · 22/01/2017 23:49

No its beautiful and very popular so wont be considered odd or even unusual. I know of two Lunas who were born in the last couple of years and thats only out of the handful of people i know whove had kids.
I think its even in the top 50 names for last year?

sorry its number 100 but still it is on the most popular list for last year so i really wouldnt worry about it being considered unusual! Its a lovely name. x

I have a daughter called Luna. Yes, I first heard it in Harry Potter, but I loved Luna Lovegood's strength of character and resilience, and how she wasn'the afraid to be herself and didn't care what others thought of her. I also just love L names in general (Love, Laughter, Learning... all important things, I think), and especially two-syllable names.

She gets called Lu and Lulu a lot by family.

MrsMeeseeks · 04/04/2017 15:00

Luny. Just no.

muminthecity · 04/04/2017 15:04

I love all of your names, especially Aurora. I know a little Aurora who is known as Rory and she's just adorable.

uhohspaghettiohs · 04/04/2017 15:06

I love Aurora and Luna and also don't watch HP so no connection there for me. Kids will make a joke out of any name if they really want to so I wouldn't let that be a factor if I were you.

Lemoncurd · 04/04/2017 15:08

Our cat is called Luna, she has lots of fond but less than flattering nicknames based on her name!

hoddtastic · 04/04/2017 15:09

my mates cat is Luna as is another friends dog. don't do it.

Neolara · 04/04/2017 15:12

Didn't Luna live in a loo? If so, it's a name with quite a lot of bullying potential I'd have thought.

MamaLazarou · 04/04/2017 15:15

I think a famous football player popularised the name, so I would just assume the parents were fans of the same team.

girlandboy · 04/04/2017 15:16

Our cat is called Luna.
I know an adult Aurora, who is actually always called Rory which is a bit of a shame because it's a pretty name but a bit Sleeping Beauty

girlandboy · 04/04/2017 15:33

Neolara no Luna didn't live in a loo. That was the ghost called Moaning Myrtle.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/04/2017 21:13

Not keen on Luna, but do like Thea and Aurora (Rory).
Lyra
Aurelia
Tara

YoungYolandaYorgensen39 · 04/04/2017 21:35

Luna has grown on me, but it's a bit far out for me.
Aurora - I find difficult to say but Rory is cute. I prefer Laura and Laurie.
Thea - meh. It feels like something is missing.

FreeNiki · 04/04/2017 21:36

A friend of mine in France named her DD this. She is French

Yika · 04/04/2017 21:44

I know a young Luna - named for the moon connection, not HP. I find it pretty if hippyish. I prefer it to Thea and Aurora.

Petalbird · 04/04/2017 21:45

Why is luna only associated with harry potter? I thought it ment moon as in princess luna of my little pony (something kids are more likely to watch)

mamaduckbone · 04/04/2017 21:46

I know an adult Luna and have never made the HP connection. If you like it go for it - it's a pretty name.

paddypants13 · 04/04/2017 22:16

Luna is beautiful. I also love Thea and Aurora.

Lemondrop09 · 05/04/2017 00:47

I think it's a lovely name.

I don't see the problem with the Harry Potter connection? Luna was an awesome character. She was an exceptionally loyal friend who was honest, brave and showed that it was acceptable to be yourself, even if you were unconventional.

OkPedro · 05/04/2017 00:54

Kids will always find something to tease other kids about. Luna isn't ridiculous, if you love it go for it. I heard of two dc today called Honey Rose and LuLu Belle. I choose my dcs names coz I liked them but also baring in mind they will one day be adults

Joeybee · 05/04/2017 10:31

Luna is such a pretty name. For me, the Harry Potter association makes it unusable,(as DH can't overlook that) but, it's a name I'm seeing more and more. I certainly don't think it is too strange or unique.
Oh, however, I think there is teasing potential with Luna though, as it has 'Loony' kind of built in to the name.

goldenrachita · 05/04/2017 12:13

I had no idea it was from Harry Potter until I read this thread so I don't think that makes it a no-go. There are lots of boys called Harry!

But for me personally I'd avoid it like the plague because it's such a rising name and there will be so many of them in the future. It's pretty (Spanish for moon) but it's got all the signs of becoming the next Ruby/Ava/Lily. If you love popular names and are ok with having a few others at her school, go for it.

Sounds like a contraceptive
