I think its lovely and definitely due a come back. Melody is awful. I'll go as far as to say chavvy

I would shorten to Lissa - it's a really pretty name and quite uncommon these days without being left-field in any way. A perfect combination.

I like Melissa but not Mel. How about Milicent ?

There's also Melanie if its the Mel bit you are after. However i think Melissa is really nice.

Melissa is very outdated to me. All of the ones I know are in their 30s and 40s, and all get shortened to Mel.

DS's friend is a Melissa, she's 12. I think it's a lovely name.

It's gorgeous. It won't sound dated to anyone under 30 ish. Plus the fact that it sounds dated to those older than that means it'll stay uncommon for another 20 years or so.

Melody is the snotty sister off of the Queen's Nose.

Melissa sounds really dated to me, and I don't like the nn 'Mel'. Much prefer Melody, which isn't dated and sounds nicer.
