@Staranise123 Yes, I would (not that I've ever come across that spelling, only Yvonne), because it begins with I not E or Y.

Jooni · 10/01/2017 18:09

EYE-vo (vo rhyming with so)

Ivo is much closer to Ivor/Ivan than Yvonne to me and they're definitely usually pronounced with an "eye" sound in English.

SallyGinnamon · 10/01/2017 18:14

Eye vo to rhyme with so

MarmiteDoesYouGood · 10/01/2017 18:46

Ivo is much closer to Ivor/Ivan than Yvonne to me and they're definitely usually pronounced with an "eye" sound in English.

Just FYI, Ivo is not a variant of Ivan or Ivor. They are unrelated names. Ivo is a name in its own right but variants include Yves and Ives (as in St. Ives), and the feminine versions are Yvonne/Ivona, Iva and Yvette. Traditionally it was pronounced Ee-vo (vo rhyming with so).

soundsystem · 10/01/2017 19:11

Thanks, all. Much more variation than I had anticipated!

I would pronounce it Ee-vo, DH thinks a lot of people would say Eye-vo (and it appears that he is correct!). Both to rhyme with so. I hadn't even considered that there was an alternative pronunciation for that bit!

eye vo

KatherinaMinola · 10/01/2017 23:27

Eevo, like Karlovic.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 12/01/2017 12:06

I'm from Eastern Europe and Ivo has been used a lot in my family. It is pronounced Eevo and is short version of name Ivan.

(And I'm considering it for DS2)

Allthebestnamesareused · 12/01/2017 12:17

But imyourwoman I assume you pronounce Ivan as Ee Van too? We would say eye van in England hence why we would say eye voh for Ivo.

HardcoreLadyType · 12/01/2017 12:20

Ee-vo.

Like Yves, but with an "oh" at the end.

NewPantsforaNewYear · 12/01/2017 12:24

I know a couple and one pronounces it one way and one the other. Sorry, no help at all!

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 12/01/2017 12:29

Allthebest yes we pronounce Ivan Eevan

PatriciaHolm · 12/01/2017 19:57

I'd say Eye-vo - we have one in our family.
