Number two is a couple of months away and we're working on names shortlists. No idea if a boy or a girl, elder sister is Charlotte, and surname begins with N (so we're avoiding names beginning or ending with N).

Boy (middle name would be Douglas)
So far we like
Frederick
Casper
Felix
Edward (or similar)

Girl (middle name not set but perhaps Lilian)
So far we like
Genevieve
Josephine
Clover
Juniper (though we're a bit less keen on these latter two).

We're happy with these shortlists but would love to hear suggestions of other, similar names we might have overlooked. We especially like names with a few different diminutives, like Charlotte (who can be Charlie, Lotta, Lottie etc).

Thanks!

Thanks for all of these suggestions, everyone. You've done an amazing job, these lists are full of names I love but can't use because of other family members who already have them, including my parents, grandparents and even my older daughter's middle name.

I think clover and juniper are unlikely to be used, which I'm sad about. I think they're great names but not right for us.

Francis is my beloved grandfather's name - what do people think? A little boy called Frank?

Also, Frederick Douglas N is a frontrunner name- does this conjour up any thoughts? I know there was an American statesman and abolitionist called Frederick Douglass but surely that doesn't matter.

I think Frank is coming back around to being cool again now. I'd love to use it.

I have to admit the first thought I had was Frederick Douglass when I saw your list, but surely that's a positive thing, what a man to have as your child's namesake!
