Does the name Bella work with the surname Lee?

Bella Lee

It would be just Bella, not Isabella or Arabella or any of the other -bella names.

Thanks! Smile

I agree that having a longer version of Bella solves the Lee problem. Isabella Lee sounds lovely, nickname Bella. My nickname doesn't "go" very well with my surname and that's never bothered me, but I think being stuck with an awkward pairing might have.

I think Lee is a really cool surname though, it sounds awesome with short -ie / y names, like Laurie Lee. Daisy Lee, Rosie Lee, Poppy Lee. How about Clementine, Clemmie for short?

I like Chloe Lee and Isabella Lee.

Bella is imo a very insubstantial name. Plus, it's a name for dogs or horses imo.

However, it is a lovely nickname for Isabella or Annabella.

Belinda ?

lovelearning · 26/12/2016 12:02

Annabel Lee

I like that.

Annabel Lee.

Nickname Bella.

Sophronia · 26/12/2016 17:24

Annabel Lee is a poem by Edgar Allan Poe.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 26/12/2016 17:26

Bella just makes me think of Twilight.....

Agreed, it's too much of a tongue twister. .

QuimReaper · 26/12/2016 17:34

Annabel Lee is a famous poem.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 26/12/2016 17:39

Isobel Lee sounds like Is a belly, I don't think you can do that either.

Annabel Lee, yes, plenty of people won't think of the poem.

Pluto30 · 26/12/2016 19:50

Annabel Lee is a definite no for us. We're both literature lovers, and Annabel Lee is very grim.

I don't dislike Isabella, but the Isabella I know gets called Izzy for short, and I really, really don't like that. Arabella would be more likely to get shortened to just Bella, but Arabella is a bit fussy for us.

Daisy is on our list Quim. Clementine is a bit OTT for us (in the same vein as Arabella).

She'll be called Bella a thousand times more than Bella Lee so why not go for it? Also, her surname is likely to change when she marries. I love bella. I'm a teacher and have a million Lillys and Chloe's in my class, sorry x

Belleblush · 26/12/2016 19:55

No apostrophe intended on chloes!!!

Pluto30 · 26/12/2016 19:59

Lily's actually not super popular here and it's dropping. It's currently at no. 23, but Bella (on its own) is no. 77 (Isabella is at no. 12).

I have an alliterative nickname with my surname and it doesn't bother me (think Lucy Lee), but I wouldn't want to burden her. It's true that you're rarely called by your first name and surname.

Saffron Lee
I love Saffron! Saffy nn

lrb978 · 26/12/2016 21:41

Could you give Bella a second name, but only go by the first. So e.g. Bella Ann Lee, or Bella Jane Lee, but known as Bella (I haven't hyphenated the names, but they could be).

soupmaker · 26/12/2016 21:56

I love Bella. It's a great name. I'd go for it. Maybe with Lee as a last name it sounds a wee bit funny, but everyone will soon get used to it.

Pluto30 · 27/12/2016 00:07

We thought about a non-hyphenated double first name... Bella Grace or Bella Kate, most likely. Smile We thought the same thing for Lily.

Thanks soupmaker!

I love Bella and think you should just go for it, the surname Lee can be made to sound like the -ly suffix with any name Bellaly, Lilyly etc, but I think when the speaker is saying it in context, they'll say it like 2 separate names because that's what they are!

Other names that have a similar shape/feel to Bella:(to me anyway!)

Anna
Pippa
Penny
Sophie
Sofia
Anya
Emma
Bianca
Greta
Zara

lorelairoryemily · 28/12/2016 11:20

Bella rose Lee??

lorelairoryemily · 28/12/2016 11:22

Though I think you could just go for it. It's not like you're going to call her Bella Lee every time you address her, she'll just be Bella

TheImprobableGirl · 30/12/2016 09:09

I've got an Isabella, nicknamed Bella since birth and who will only answer to that! Also have a Poppy, and hoping for a third that will most likely be Alexa (Lexi) if a girl too!

alabasterangel · 30/12/2016 09:20

If you like lily then try lengthening that?

Lillian Lee (nn Lily) is lovely?

hoddtastic · 30/12/2016 14:27

Lara
Phoebe
Catherine/Kate/Katy
Elizabeth Lee (Lizzie Lee is lovely)

One of my daughters has a name that has the same vowel sound and it's fine- think Anna Daniels. Emma Bennett It's fine.
