We are loving Edward as a name for our soon to be DS. In fact we're currently using a related nn to refer to bump! However, I don't like all of the nn available. How much control do I actually have over what people call him...?

We have an Edward. He's Ted. Only his sister calls him Teddy. He's never been called Ed by anyone.

If he chooses to call himself Edward or Ed when he's older, that's totally his choice. He will always be Ted to me though!

I have a 5 year old Edward. He's always been Teddy, although his dad often calls him Ted. We picked his name because it has so many nickname possibilities or he could be Edward. He can choose what he wants to be called when he's older. We also loved the name Edward. I like the fact that it's not very popular but not a 'weird' type of name either. I guess also having lots of nn choices means that if there is another Edward in his class he can choose one of those nns so his name is not the same as others.
Congratulations on your ds and he's going to have a great name!

I have a 7 yo Edward. He is either Edward, Eddie, Ed or (rarely) Ted.

I have a toddler Edward. He's always called Edward and nobody shortens it, though I'm sure this will change when he's at school.

It is possible to have an Edward be called Edward without the nicknames.

I have an Edward who chooses to only be called Edward. He allows his brother to call him Ed or Eddie, but with anyone else who tries to shorten it, he just says "it's Edward" and then that's what the call him. (Bit of a shame really as I rather like Ed as a shortening! Grin)

I have an Edward who is under 1. He is usually called Teddy, which is incredibly cutesie and saccharine, but it's stuck more than anything else. I tend to call him Teds or Ted, and will be steering it that way as he grows, until he can decide what he wants to be called.
