Isobel or Isabel, Joy or Grace?

Just musing. Baby not due until next summer and may not be a girl - if it's a boy DH and I both like Luke William but girls names are contentious. The only one we can seem to agree on is Isobel/ Isabel but not the spelling.

For a middle name I like Joy as it's more unusual, and also the name of a teacher who I loved to bits and inspired me hugely. DH prefers Grace as it's more 'normal' but I quite like it too.

So:

Isobel Joy

Isabel Grace

Or neither?

Isabel Grace

Isobel is my favourite. It's also not as popular as Isabel (or Isabelle), however, that could be problematic as people will probably spell her name as above.

Grace is very popular as a middle name. If you were to choose Isabel Grace, she'll be one of many.

However, if you're not bothered by popularity then it doesn't matter(!)

Isobel Joy.
DD has Joy as a middle name, and lives up to it every day!

Isobel Joy. Lovely name.

As an aside I watched the film "Joy" over the weekend and was thinking then what a lovely, unused, name it was. V good film too.

Dixiechickonhols · 19/12/2016 09:57

My DD has Joy as middle name, no regrets. Grace is nice but very much common filler middle name - the Louise of this generation.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/12/2016 10:01

Isobel Joy.

Isabel Joy, or Isabel Grace - both lovely. Not keen on Isobel spelling because of the 'sob' part, it always looks sad.

FurryDogMother · 19/12/2016 10:12

Isobel Joy - I'm biased though, 'cos Joy's my middle name, and I like it!

1horatio · 19/12/2016 10:16

Why does it have to be Isabel Grace or Isobel Joy?

Couldn't it be Isabel Joy? I personally simply prefer Isabel or Isabelle. But that's just me.

Grace is a classic and really nice. I think I might prefer Joy, but both are great middle names.

My 12 week old is an Isobel Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/12/2016 12:48

Isobel is by far the best spelling. Remus has spoken. Grin

I have DD who have Isobel and Grace as MN. But would go for Isobel Joy from your list.
