Personally, I'm a fan of Margot - but OH is adamant that it looks like maggot. He prefers to drop the t, but I don't like the way it looks at all. Any thoughts?

My Dmum is 77 and called Margot. To me it is a very old lady name as a result of that association! She doesnt get called Mar-gott tho. People generally know how to pronounce it.

Staranise123 · 30/12/2016 14:01

Maybe most Brits pronounce it the French way. But Germans and Scandinavians would pronounce it Mar-gott.

Margot. I can't imagine there are many people who don't know how it's pronounced whereas the other versions are Hmm
Margot is a lovely name btw!

Margaux is wine.

Margot is better and I don't think many people would pronounce it incorrectly (or maggot wtf?) as it is relatively well known.
