I really need some opinions, even if they're harsh. Thanks

Lycoris... How is that pronounced? I keep seeing licorice.

I like Clara more than Serena, but the full name of Serena Bernadette more than Clara Lycoris.

Daphne... nah. Daft sounding name.

PaperdollCartoon · 11/12/2016 21:20

I like Serena best of the 3, Clara next, Daphne not so much. Very dated and not in a good way. I've never heard Lycoris before, and I'm also saying it like Licorice. Is that how it's pronounced?

SpunkyMummy · 11/12/2016 21:21

EDIT: I also like Serena Yvonne...

Kind of like licorice... but with an s - sound.

PonkAlert · 11/12/2016 21:34

I love Clara.

Bernadette is my middle name. It is AWFUL. Would you use Bernard for a boy? Of course you wouldn't. Adding "ette" doesn't make it acceptable for a girl. Sorry for being harsh but I speak from personal experience.

Misspilly88 · 11/12/2016 21:35

Clara is beautiful. Lycoris sounds like a strange disease. Or a mouthwash.

SpunkyMummy · 11/12/2016 21:37

Of course I would use Bernard for a boy.

Our boy's name was actually Frederick Bertram.

May I ask why it's so horrible in your opinion? Were you teased? Is it the sound? The meaning?

Thank you for answering. :)

I like all the first names you've listed (especially Clara), but none of the middle names. What about Clara Daphne, or Serena Daphne?

SpunkyMummy · 11/12/2016 21:40

navy

I also like Serena :)

But do you like Serena Bernadette?

OP posts:
Oly5 · 11/12/2016 21:42

Clara Bernadette is pretty
lycoris - what?!?! Dreadful

PonkAlert · 11/12/2016 21:44

Because Bernard is terrible! I wasn't bullied or anything, I just think it's an awful, unfeminine sounding name. It reminds me of Blackadder. Or Bernard Cribbins. I also think -ette names are really dated.

As always, I'm just a stranger on the internet; if you love it, use it.

Soubriquet · 11/12/2016 21:45

Lycoris....looks like clitoris Grin

Sorry.

Serena Bernadette is lovely

SpunkyMummy · 11/12/2016 21:47

ezio

I don't like Clara Daphne or Serena Daphne. I don't know why, because I love these names separately. It's actually rather weird. But it would technically be a good idea. Thank you :)

The only other middle name I like for Serena is Millicent. So, Serena Millicent?

Lycoris. It's a flower. Unfortunately associated with the otherworld, graveyards and Nirvana in Japan. I somehow need to stop loving that name. But it's just stuck in my head!!!

I love Clara Serena

SpunkyMummy · 11/12/2016 22:01

No beloved (or unbeloved) relative. I think. At least not in the last five generations...

I just like the sound and the meaning of it.

What about Serena Millicent?

I really don't like Isabelle. And Elizabeth is nice but it just doesn't feel right.

Alice is cute but... just cute (imo). And Rose is a very lovely first name but a bit boring as a middle name. But thank you for the suggestions :)!!

I really appreciate anybody giving me an actual opinion (unlike a certain someone!!). Even if it's just 'these names suck' or 'I love all of them' ;)

HardcoreLadyType · 11/12/2016 22:02

Serena Millicent is lovely.

IJustWantABrew · 11/12/2016 22:14

I like Clara the most, not a clue how to pronounce Lycoris (sounds like a disease) but I suppose it's a middle name so go as crazy as you want with it :). Not so keen on daphne. Serena is nice and I think it works well with Bernadette. It's also less common than Clara.

SpunkyMummy · 11/12/2016 22:14

conker

Clara Serena has so many As

Thank you, hardcore.

I wonder whether most people prefer Millicent to Bernadette?

OP posts:
MilkybarMars · 11/12/2016 22:30

I also thought clitoris when I saw Lycoris I do apologise! And then thought liquorice. Which is slightly better! I've never heard of it before and think it is a bit harsh sounding. Have you considered Lyra or Lydia?

Serena is a ok... have you considered Seren? Meaning star if you like meanings? Or I thought of Celeste when I saw Serena.

Clara... I know one little Clara who doesn't seem to have any problems with the name at school if that helps at all! It's not my favourite type of name but it isn't offensive in any way! My nan had it as a middle name and always hated it as got teased being called Clara Cluck?!?!

Daphne... reminds of Fraiser. Maybe would be Daffy at school?

Bernadette ... not my fave! Have you considered Etta?

If you like long names have you considered.... Annabel, Florence, Penelope, Clarabel?

If you like flower names have you considered any others?

rainbow99 · 11/12/2016 22:32

Much prefer Millicent to Bernadette, which just looks and sounds ugly to me - sorry. Out of your first names Clara is my favourite Smile

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 11/12/2016 22:38

If I had a little girl I would call her Millicent. I think Serena Millicent is lovely. I also quite like Serena Bernadette.

Really don't like Lycoris, particularly after you said how it was pronounced. In my head I was saying Lie-COR-iss but you are saying Liquor-Is I think?

MyNameIsBernadette · 11/12/2016 22:44

Name changed for this post, obvs Grin As didn't want to out myself. But I'm a Bernadette. My Mum came from an Irish Catholic family. I hated it growing up (In England) as it was so different. I actually quite like it now, there are too many women in their 30's called Becky, Emma and Sarah imo.

I can't see it being a problem with using it as a middle name OP. I did used to get told the joke "what do you call a woman who sets fire to her bills?" quite a lot. And everyone assumes I'm from Irish/religious decendents so it's a good conversation starter.

I like Serena Smile

MyNameIsBernadette · 11/12/2016 22:45

P.s Bernadette means "brave as a bear", which I love. My friends call me "B" Smile
