We're trying to come up with some names for our first baby, which we know is a girl. So far we've got:

Florence
Saffron
Daisy

What do you think? Are they really popular?

What other names do you think we'll like?

I love Daisy.

Not a fan of Saffron. Just makes me think of rice. Love me some saffron rice with extra coconut cream.

Florence is nice on its own, but the nicknames are dire (I know two - one old and one young - and both get Flo).

Enidblyton1 · 10/12/2016 22:31

They are all nice names, imo. Saffron is v unusual and the other two are averagely popular at the moment. I know a couple of girls under 5 called Daisy and Florence. But they are nowhere near as popular as names like Evie, Eva, Ava, Sophie, Emily.

Other suggestions:

Flora
Rose
Lily (v popular apparently, but I don't know any)
Clementine

clary · 10/12/2016 22:36

I love the name Florence (was DS2's girl name) so these are some others I like (disclaimer: you may not!)

Agnes
Cecily or Cecilia
Mabel
Edith
Harriet
Dora or Dorothy

Daisy is quite popular, I teach secondary and I teach a few. I don't know anyone called Saffron and only a couple of Florences, tho that is supposed to be popular now.

HearTheThunderRoar · 10/12/2016 23:30

I strongly dislike Florence, however thats through association. Flo is even worse imo.

I feel indifferent about Daisy, popular and inoffensive.

I do love Saffron though, such a cool name.

WyfOfBathe · 10/12/2016 23:56

I love Florence and like Daisy, not keen on Saffron as I just think of the spice (I know Daisy is also a plant, but it's more used as a name)

Also:
Clara
Harriet
Lily/Lilian
Ivy
Olive/Olivia
Effie
Eliza
Lauren
Autumn/Summer

dontpokethebear · 10/12/2016 23:58

Florence is nice. I know one who has 'Flossy' as her nickname.

mathanxiety · 11/12/2016 01:19

You seem to have a floral theme, so 'branching out' a bit if you will...
Hazel
Willow
Cassia/ Keziah
Sylvia

Cicely
Aven
Sage

I think Saffron really stands out from your list.
Daisy can come across as very lightweight. It's hard to see it on a woman of 53. Florence tends to get the NN Flo, which is so unfortunate.

Gorgeous names! We almost called DD2 Daisy, I really like it. Maybe
Fern
Violet
Sienna
Scarlett
Coral

Joinourclub · 11/12/2016 06:10

Felicity, Fliss.
Clover.
Ruby

TopKittyKat · 11/12/2016 10:34

Thanks for your feedback. Some lovely name suggestions there.

I like Scarlett, Harriet and Edith but these have all been vetoed by DH.

It's so mhard to pick a name!

Daisy was 20th most popular name in 015, Florence 23Rd. Saffron is much less popular.

What about Georgia?

I LOVE Florence and daisy however my cousin is called Florence and sister is called daisy so they're off my list :(

My cousin gets called floss or Flossie which is cute. And my sister gets called dill as a nickname

NovaArt3mis · 11/12/2016 18:24

Met a Florence recently and really liked the name (and person).

Not sure about Saffron but have a friend Sapphire who gets called Saff/y and that grew on me quite quickly.
