Opinions? Dh has suggested it again, last time we had a boy.

I'm.really unsure about it, I kind of like the name in itself, but think it's a bit........ I don't even know.

So, what do you think of when you hear it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I agree with others that Megan sounds very 80s/90s. I'm not too keen on it and much prefer Meg.

I used to know a Megan whose name was a contraction of both her first names - Margaret Ann.

Breadwidow · 10/12/2016 23:05

I like Megan, but prefer Bethan (rhymes so I have them together in my head)

HearTheThunderRoar · 10/12/2016 23:24

I love Megan, classic name and easily pronounced, Meg is a great nickname.

It's not that dated in my opinion, it might have peaked in the '90s but the name had been around long before then, I know a couple of Megans in their 40s and 50s. Its a lot more timeless compared to other '90s names (Shannon, Courtney etc).

Knittedfrog · 10/12/2016 23:27

I like it. It's dd middle name.

rememberthetime · 10/12/2016 23:29

Again - hugely biased but it is a good name. believe me. It is unusual enough for people to remember it and easy to shorten for a friendly feel. it also has a quirky feel that will influence your child's future with a more artistic or creative leaning.

I heard it means "strong".

It is often used as a name for Welsh sheep dogs though...

notangelinajolie · 10/12/2016 23:34

Megan is a lovely name. DH had a name for DD and I wasn't sure ... until I saw him looking at her moments after the midwife had handed her to him. She was daddy's girl and no other name came close Smile

Hobnobbing · 10/12/2016 23:38

I love Megan an alternative that I think is similar is Lauren!

buttercup54321 · 10/12/2016 23:45

I know 3 people named Megan. They are 23, 11 and16 months.

catsarenice · 10/12/2016 23:45

I love it - was top of my list but had a boy. Also liked Marnie and Maddie - not sure why I liked 'M' names so much!!

Suburbopolis · 10/12/2016 23:48

Like Bethan and olwen more

Isawahatonce · 10/12/2016 23:53

I hate it, sorry. Meg/Meggie is ok but still not great.

imleanne1979 · 10/12/2016 23:56

I have a Megan she's 3 and I've not met any other Megan's her age she gets called meg slit as well...

imleanne1979 · 10/12/2016 23:57

That should have said a lot not slit Confused

Susiesue61 · 11/12/2016 00:00

I have a Megan. She was actually going to be something else, but looked like a Megan! She used to hate it being shortened but now prefers Meg. It is common but lovely 😊 My Megs is 15 btw

Showgirl109 · 11/12/2016 00:13

I like it. Hate Meg hate Meggie even more.
Also massively dislike Margaret but I am biased on all counts.

Fanjango · 11/12/2016 00:15

I have a Megan...it was that or Bethan but as her surname would have started with a B, Megan it was

BackforGood · 11/12/2016 00:17

I really like it.
I like names that are easy to spell, easy to pronounce, and aren't being used too much at the moment. Fits all of those so it's a winner for me. Smile

ElephantMug · 11/12/2016 00:23

I love it. Doesn't seem dated to me. Go for it.

mathanxiety · 11/12/2016 01:02

I really dislike it. It is very 80s. It's a name along with Colleen that Irish American families choose in the mistaken belief that it's a traditional Irish name. (Colleen is Irish but means 'girl' so it's not Irish in the way they think it is).

CatchingBabies · 11/12/2016 01:07

I have a Megan, she's 14 now. When she was younger there was quite a few Megan's so definitely don't see it as an 80s name! Not seen any for a while though.

10Betty10 · 11/12/2016 08:01

I know a lot of Megan's (all in their late twenties/early thirties though). Not sure if that makes it dated or not.

Meg is great. Megan is a bit blah imo.
I prefer Morgan and Mog as a Nn.

MrsMeeseeks · 11/12/2016 18:04

Very dated, IMO. In the same vein as Lauren, Leanne, Jade.

How about Margaret?

Madbengalmum · 11/12/2016 18:07

Like it.
