Esmeralda?

DH suggested the name and thought it will suit DD2 as I picture her with dark brown hair and light olive skin like DD1 and we also have a Spanish last name.
I would not like to shorten the name though if we did use it.
Reading reviews on the name though makes me doubt this choice. Is it that bad? Thought it's sweet and fitting for DD but many people hate it in forums or say good choice for nickname Esme. Do not mind Esme but it's so popular I would prefer DD to go by full name... In general love somewhat unique names but not so uncommon that they end up being too strange.
Is Esmeralda a sweet fitting baby name? Or an OMG horrible, what did you name your child?

Great name.

Whenever Esmeralda comes up on name threads I am always shocked by the amount of people who love it.
I just don't understand at all I think it's so vile sounding!
Weird because I say Esme and I like and then I say Ralda and don't mind it so I don't know why the combination makes me feel quite so uncomfortable.
It is very OTT though and I think with a 4 syllable name at some point in her life, she's going to have it shortened by someone.
I could imagine a little dark haired, olive skinned Socorro, Gabriella, Valentina, Rafaella, Noa, Isadora, Magadalena...
