Our little one is several days old & we're really stuck on a name. Our surname is double barrelled and begins with E. we have 3 shortlisted. One she looks like but not either of our favourites, one is my favourite & 1 is DP's. What are your thoughts on these names please?

Adeline (rhymes with Caroline)
Imogen
Niah (rhymes with fire)

Thanks Smile

If you'd said Adeline pronounced Adeleeen or Niah pronounced Neeah I would have picked those.

however I don't like the Adelyne or Nyah pronunciations so will pick Imogen.

thedragonflyinn · 05/12/2016 16:54

Adeline is gorgeous

girlelephant · 05/12/2016 16:57

Imogen is my favourite, followed by Adeline. Sorry I don't like the other one at all, I think you and she will spend so much time telling people how to pronounce or spell it. It's also not as pretty as the other two

midsomermurderess · 05/12/2016 18:03

I thought Bread too (see PP) when I saw Adeline but it's my favourite of the three.

GinevraPotter · 05/12/2016 19:36

Adeline.

Naia is a proper name, with the pronunciation you want. It's of Basque origin.

Asuitablemum · 05/12/2016 22:03

Imogen

Adeline by a country mile!

ChocoChou · 05/12/2016 23:18

Nya or Adeline.
I still feel Niah will always be pronounce Nee-yah
Congrats by the waySmileFlowers

Imogen. If you need to explain the pronounciation, you shouldn't saddle your child with it.

Puremince · 05/12/2016 23:20

Imogen
Adeline

Niah

MagicChanges · 05/12/2016 23:28

Sorry I don't like any of them - Adeline (which seems to be the favourite on here) sounds like some sort of chemical or maybe I'm thinking of vaseline! Is it pronounced Adeleen or Adeline - think that will always cause a mix up. My DGD has a friend called Imogen and she likes to be called "Imo" and neither sound very nice. As for Niah - well I dunno - best of the three I suppose. At least it's short to go with you double barrelled last name.
Having said all that my new GD has been given a truly horrendous name (as far as I'm concerned) but it's not my call of course.

Enkopkaffetak · 06/12/2016 00:07

If she looks like one of them, isnt that your answer?

personally I like Nyah and Adeline I have never warmed to Imogen not sure why.

Littlefoxy · 06/12/2016 01:03

Thank you for all your votes, it's been really helpful. We're going to sleep on it but I think both DP & I will come to the same conclusion. Very much looking forward to ending the daily texts & phone calls asking if we've decided yet!! Just in case anyone is considering a name that isn't simple to pronounce; my name is uncommon & is often mispronounced or misread as another name entirely & I can honestly say it's never been annoying. Sometimes it's funny how wrong people get it but I really like having a name that people are unfamiliar with. I've always felt it's helped me be memorable & that's been useful when running my own business. The only downside I can ever recall is as a child never finding my name on a pen in a gift shop & that's the case for lots of names anyway. Smile
