OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Walter is fabulous. Don't like Walt. You'll get comments about it is an old fashioned horrible name and the child will be teased.

GazingAtStars · 03/12/2016 17:33

Horrible...please don't do it. If you must do an old man name what about Wilfred / Wilf?

SpeakNoWords · 03/12/2016 17:34

Will you mind if he gets called Wally by others?

Watto1 · 03/12/2016 17:34

Would you be happy with people calling him Wally? Sadly I thing that would inevitable .

Watto1 · 03/12/2016 17:35

Great minds Speak!

OrangeTrees16 · 03/12/2016 17:35

I actually don't hate Wally... I wouldn't pick it, but don't hate it

SvartePetter · 03/12/2016 17:35

I like it.

bigarse1 · 03/12/2016 17:36

SpeakNoWords · 03/12/2016 17:37

You know Wally mean a silly or daft person , yes?

OrangeTrees16 · 03/12/2016 17:39

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 03/12/2016 17:43

Awful

Blue2014 · 03/12/2016 17:44

I love it. I knew a very cool Walter once, tattooed roadie for bands, lovely man.

SpeakNoWords · 03/12/2016 17:45

Will your son always live in the same area as where you are now?

SorenaJ · 03/12/2016 17:49

People have the ability to choose their own nicknames. If he doesn't like Wally, then he tells people that he doesn't want to be called Wally.

I like Walter. It's a pleasant name.

AuntieStella · 03/12/2016 17:49

Walter was very much out of fashion when I was at school and continues to be swerved by my generation because Walter was the main 'softie' in the Beano and because Wally is used a perjorative term.

Also Walt is used (increasingly, and very widely in military circles) as short version of labelling someone a Walter Mitty, again perjorative.

You need to be absolutely sure about those two angles before using the name.

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 03/12/2016 17:52

I know a man in his 20s called Walter - he goes by Walker, he finds his name embarrassing.

SirChenjin · 03/12/2016 17:54

Don't like it at all, sorry. Some names have fallen out of favour for a very good reason.

Idodo · 03/12/2016 18:29

Very wet. Even worse than Malcolm (see other thread.)

SpeckledyBanana · 03/12/2016 18:32

I love this (family) name but my mid-20s relly who got landed with it loathes it.

Enidblyton1 · 03/12/2016 18:41

I'm not a fan, but then I loved the Beano.
Walter will always be a weak and watery personality to me.

Helsinkimorning · 03/12/2016 18:43

Breaking bad fan?

MiniMaxi · 03/12/2016 19:06

I love Walt and Walter! It was on our list Smile

MiniMaxi · 03/12/2016 19:07

(It's a family name so perhaps a bit biased)

Sophronia · 03/12/2016 19:49

I like it!

Pluto30 · 03/12/2016 20:28

The only Walter I've known was a complete and total asshole.

So I don't like it.

Plus, he got Wally. Because he was one.
