My DD is Ottilie and my FIL cannot wrap his tongue around it so calls her Ollie, to me though it just sounds (for a girl) like some uneducated person who cannot say Holly. I really really dislike it, there is no-one else than my FIL who can get away with calling her that.

KlingybunFistelvase · 24/11/2016 17:06

Love Olive and Ollie is a cute nn. Think I prefer Liv or Livvy though (and so might your DD - just a thought, in case you have your heart well and truly set on Ollie, in which case I'd go with Olwen nn Ollie).

I adore Olive - may use it myself if I have another girl and do think Ollie is a lovely nickname. People will assume Olivia though

Sophronia · 24/11/2016 17:59

It's cute. Olive is nice as a full name.

I always imagine being called the name, can't see myself as an Olive at any given age.

Ollie maybe.

EssentialHummus · 24/11/2016 20:45

I prefer Olivia, but it's OK.

Gruffalosfriend · 26/11/2016 11:27

I like Olive but prefer Ottilie. Why not wait and see what nickname evolves naturally?

WalterWhitesNipple · 26/11/2016 12:02

Love it Smile

AuntieStella · 26/11/2016 12:07

There are loads of girls called Olivia around the age of my DC and I know a fair few who use the NN Ollie.

So people might assume she's Olivia in full, rather than Olive, but it won't come across as unusual.

Does anyone ever use Olave (as in Baden-Powell) these days?

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/11/2016 12:50

Olive and Ollie are both awful in my very humble opinion. Olive is dowdy and Ollie is a bloke's name. Olivia/Liv are so much nicer.
