So what I thought was going to be DS2 has turned into Dd1! Being utterly convinced of having a boy prior to my scan today I has my boys names pretty sorted .
I have always loved the name Perdita since I read The winters tale many moons ago , surprisingly DH is on board and likes it too which for a man who can only come up with "Dave" as a name for his son is shocking to say the least .
I have reservations though , we are not posh like seriously not , very normal 2 working parents small semi in a fairly crap area ( think local Lidl rather than Waitrose) for some reason I think of Perdita as a posh girls name?

Other names I have mulled over are Erin , Eleanor and Matilda which all seem a safer choice but I'm 40 this is my last baby for sure and I wonder will I regret not sticking to my guns saying stuff what anyone thinks that's her name !

Iconic dog I am afraid. Not the most iconic dog but an iconic dog. Not lassie.

ProbablyMe · 25/11/2016 21:05

As a Pratchett fan I like it. Not sure I'd use it in real life though.

OrlandaFuriosa · 25/11/2016 21:10

I love it and have a cousin called it. Purr dit a is English, Perdeeta US, generally.

Yes, Perdita is in the film of 101 D as Pongo 's wife ( Prince's in the book), but The Winter's Tale is one of the most moving plays. And she is beautiful in it, as is Hermione.

Go for it,

maggiethemagpie · 25/11/2016 21:11

Is Purdy from the avengers short for Perdita?

CharliePurple · 25/11/2016 21:17

I love it, it reminds me of the character in a lovely children's book.

FrozenNotCold · 26/11/2016 13:44

maggiethemagpie, The Avengers' Purdey isn't short for anything. The name is taken from a traditional English gun-maker - v appropriate given the role played by Jo Lumley.

GreenTureen · 27/11/2016 09:44

I'm another that Perdita = Dalmatians op, sorry. Not keen myself.

handonhip · 27/11/2016 10:46

I've always liked Perdita. The Winter's Tale for me. Good luck, OP.

MiriAmmerman · 27/11/2016 19:06

I love it OP. If you and DH like it, use it. It does sound a bit posh but there's nothing wrong with that. I love literary names.
Don't worry about the meaning - my name has a horrible meaning, and it has never bothered me. I love my name, and most other people seem to like it. Call your DD Perdita with pride!

handonhip · 28/11/2016 07:09

What Miri said! (Much more eloquently than me.)

liquidrevolution · 28/11/2016 15:28

I like it. I have liked it since seeing the actress Perdita Weeks on TV. It means lost.

Erin is lovely but a bit boring. Eleanor and Matilda lovely and classic/historical.

Error404usernamenotfound · 28/11/2016 15:36

I love it. It did make me think of 101 Dalmations a little, but a lot of names will be reminiscent of some book/film/play, so I wouldn't let that stop you.

Dita is a great nn, Perdy's cute too.

I like Erin most out of your back up names; Eleanor and Matilda are beautiful too but very popular at the mo.

Imsickofnamechanging · 28/11/2016 15:36

Somehow the mention of it makes me uncomfortable, like there's a bad omen on its way. Probably because it's so close to the word, 'Perdition' aka damnation. No, it's sounds pretty, but no way would I name a child that.

ShowMeTheElf · 28/11/2016 15:41

Pick Perdita, wear an alice band, be as posh as you like!

Besplendour · 28/11/2016 23:28

I wouldn't (101 Dalmatians). It's very pretty though- maybe for a middle name?

JudgeJudySheidlin · 29/11/2016 22:09

Gorgeous name! Yes I did think of Dalmatians but that's because a friend a friend when I was much younger than I am now & her parents owned s Dalmatian called Perdy. Weirdly back then I didn't even think Perdy was short for Perdita or that they got the name from the film. Now I've made myself look stupid I'll move on.
Choose Perdita!

pepperpot99 · 29/11/2016 22:21

Perdita is lovely. It is she who reunites Leontes with Hermione in A Winter's Tale. She is a brilliant character. Go for it!!!!
