Felix or Arthur?

Evening all,

DS2 due end of December, we have a nearly 2 year old called Theodore. Until a couple of weeks ago I had my heart set on Felix, but have started to have major wobbles over it - I've suddenly become really concerned that people / other children will take the mickey out of his name, and therefore started to consider another old favourite - Arthur. What do you all think? Am I being hormonal or is a justified concern?

Thanks Smile

Arthur

auntym · 14/11/2016 19:22

I have a Felix and he hasn't had a single negative comment in 8 years, he loves his name. It means happy and lucky :-) Go with what you love and don't overthink it!

Belmo · 15/11/2016 13:32

I love both :)

groovygreenwichgirl · 15/11/2016 14:08

Love Arthur.

Tobias is nice but too similar to Theodore.

Mol1628 · 15/11/2016 14:10

Felix.

Lutrine · 15/11/2016 14:28

I could've written your OP a few months ago! Those were our boys names for DD1 and 2 and we had a conversation along the lines of "is Felix too unusual? I don't know any, shall we go with Arthur like we would've last time?" (we hadn't found out whether we were having a girl or boy).
I absolutely love them both but Felix just has the edge for me I think.

Colette · 15/11/2016 14:34

Arthur-Felix sounds too similar to TheodoreSmile

CyrilSneer30 · 16/11/2016 15:16

Thank you for all your comments ladies Smile auntym you've hit the nail on the head - I am a massive over thinker and fear that has been the case here!

lutrine you obviously have very good taste Wink did you have any other names on your list??

DH is still championing Tobias/Toby, but also loves Felix - he's decided he's not a fan of the nn Artie, does anyone know any other nn's for Arthur? It's still definitely on the list but think it's starting to be edged out. Naming DS1 was so much easier than this!

I think both Felix and Arthur work really well with Theodore (although "Theodore and Arthur" sounds better than "ArthUR and THEodore). Can't see why anyone would tease a Felix, it's a lovely name. Good luck, OP!

I have a cat called Felix so would have to say Arthur is better for a boy.

tootiredtothinkofaclevername · 16/11/2016 20:53

Arthur. Felix is cat food.

rainbow99 · 16/11/2016 22:06

Felix or Toby for me, I must be one of the few that really doesn't see the fascination with Arthur at the moment, it just feels so old man to me. I know quite a few too but only 1 Felix who is in his 30s

ToffeeForEveryone · 16/11/2016 22:29

Those are both cat names. Arthur barely edges it because dear god don't call your child Felix.

Gruffalosfriend · 17/11/2016 10:40

Maybe the Felix cat food brand is only sold in the UK?

DerelictMyBalls · 17/11/2016 13:01

Wasn't there a brand of cat food called Arthur's as well?

Aebj · 17/11/2016 13:02

Arthur is a great name

CyrilSneer30 · 17/11/2016 19:39

Thanks all. Arthur definitely seems to be most popular! I also appear to like 'catty' names....Confused

Still no closer to a decision as I feel like if I don't use Felix I'm going to regret it, but also want to make sure I'm not giving him a name that will be made fun of when he reaches school age. In which case Arthur would be the better choice?

Chinlo · 17/11/2016 19:48

Hasn't everybody with a Felix said that they don't get made fun of? It's not THAT unusual a name. I would use it with no fear of teasing whatsoever tbh. It's only adults that seem to associate it with cats.

Lutrine · 17/11/2016 20:04

Our other names were Edward, Leo, Asa and Theo :) ! I also like Joel, Jonathan, Toby and Dominic but DH vetoed them!

CyrilSneer30 · 17/11/2016 20:54

chinlo you're right, I'm just being overly sensitive I think. I blame being 34 weeks pregnant Grin

lutrine what a great list! I really like Leo but ironically we had a cat by that name so it's unusable for us!

We have an Arthur and I'm going to be championing Felix for no2.

We don't really shorten it but I know someone else with an Arthur who is sometimes known as art and occasionally as Thor!

griffinsss · 21/11/2016 00:25

My youngest half-brother is Felix. I thought it was odd when I heard it 6 years ago, but it's much more popular now. His older brother is Hugo. Both names have really grown on me recently.

I absolutely love Arthur, but I think Felix sounds better with Theodore (Tobias is best imo though, Teddy and Toby isn't that twee either).
