Opinions on the name Emlyn please?

Hughes.

I really like it though.

BadToTheBone · 05/11/2016 23:31

I quite like it. Associate it with Emlyn Hughes, he always made me laugh, so that's a good memory.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 05/11/2016 23:34

Lovely!

LovelyBranches · 06/11/2016 00:28

I prefer Emrhys but Emlyn is quite sweet.

ForgotStuff · 06/11/2016 00:34

It's not my favourite and I usually love Irish names. It might not bother you but Em seems feminine and Lyn seems feminine. I also think of Gremlin.

Do you have a Welsh surname?

However, I'm all for people choosing names they love, so if you like it then go for it. Smile

ForgotStuff · 06/11/2016 00:35

Sorry, I meant Welsh not Irish names (although I love Irish names too Grin )

GiddyOnZackHunt · 06/11/2016 00:39

I think it's fine in London or Wales. Emlyn Hughes is probably a mystery to anyone under 35.

PotOfYoghurt · 06/11/2016 00:44

I've never heard of it (as surprising as that may seem to some Hmm) but I really like it. I have a friend called Iestyn though so I like the -yn ending.

Emrhys is nice, too Branches. I never thought of Emrhys.

SorenaJ · 07/11/2016 09:16

Isn't that a creme you put on before having blood test or something, to numb the area?

Coey2016 · 07/11/2016 09:37

I didn't realise it was a boys name either

SpeckledyBanana · 07/11/2016 19:51

That's Emla.

soundsystem · 07/11/2016 23:04

I really like it. Emlyn's Moon (the sequel to The Snow Spider) was one of my favourite books as a child.

I met a little Emlyn in London, and no-one seemed overly confused by his name, or thought he was called Emmeline, or Gremlin.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 07/11/2016 23:22

I knew an Emlyn growing up and he was pretty much universally known as 'Gremlin' for his entire childhood/adolescence. I've not seen him for years so not sure if that's still the case now that he's in his 30s!

DiegeticMuch · 08/11/2016 22:25

It's nice but he may get the Gremlin comments.

PattyPenguin · 10/11/2016 22:25

Just be aware that the other Welsh boy's name beginning with Em- is Emrys, not Emrhys.

Both are quite possibly from Latin names - Emlyn from Aemilianus and Emrys from Ambrosius.

Both due for a revival in Wales, I suspect.
