Margot means the uneducated will say "Margot" and kids will be teased and called Maggot. Margaux is definitely more french sounding.
We are choosing Margaux to counter an overly hispanic last name despite us being french.

Margaux is the more popular spelling (in France). It looks softer too.

Margot is indeed Mar-Gott in many non French countries.

And Margaux is not a wine. It's a region

I like the sound of Margot but all I see is maggot. I would personally spell it Margo.

Margot or Margo, otherwise you've basically named her Chardonnay. Lovely name though.

RuthW · 05/11/2021 12:23

Margot.

I prefer Margo though.

In France Margaux

Outside France Margo

Margaux is so naff. Please don't do it.

Velvet Grin

Do you live in France.

No? Then Margot.

Yes? Still Margot. Margaux is awful.

I seem to remember that Margaux is the more popular spelling in France now, but I could be wrong. Perhaps a French Mumsnetter could enlighten us?
