Margot is a bit more interesting

AppleCanoe · 16/10/2016 09:23

Thank you so much. A lot of votes for Margot. Any final thoughts?

Alice
Don't like Margot at all

Flossierules · 16/10/2016 09:31

Both are beautiful. Margot is a bit more unusual if that's a consideration.

What would the middle name be?

Alice Margot goes really well.

MissWimpyDimple · 16/10/2016 09:33

Alice is classic and beautiful and popular enough to not be "out there" but not so popular that she would be "another" Alice...

I juts don't like Margot. I think it's the spelling. It really is like maggot and I'm sure that would be her nickname.

Alice all the way.

MissWimpyDimple · 16/10/2016 09:36

By the way you have pretty much bang on 50% vote for each. So "lots " for Alice too Wink

EATmum · 16/10/2016 09:40

Alice. One of my DDs is Alice and I love it. And she really likes it too.

AppleCanoe · 16/10/2016 09:44

MossWimpy, you're right, maybe it seemed like more for Margot as I wasn't expecting many to like it. Flossie, middle name would be Alice or Margot at this stage, just need to decide which one to put first.

EATmum, does your Alice have a nn? I've always wondered what Alice's get called for short.

Alice

Margot reminds me of Penelope Keith

NameChange30 · 16/10/2016 09:51

Margot

I know a Margot who is French but everyone here (UK) knows how to pronounce it.

MoonHare · 16/10/2016 09:58

They seem very different choices.
Loads of Alice's everywhere, a classic. Pretty but not frilly.
Margot much more unusual and very much a revival name. I would never have thought of Margot as sassy?? Still firmly Margot Leadbetter in acres of flowing peach chiffon for me.

pamplem0usse · 16/10/2016 13:19

It's Margo leadbetter....
I have a Margot, she's only four months and I still love it but we're forever correctling mispronunciations. My four year old does it for me now, bless him!

EATmum · 16/10/2016 17:53

Hi Apple. My dd is nearly 13, so yes she has had a number of nn over the time. She's Al, Lissy, Al-pal and then a whole variety around her middle name too. I'm probably the only one who calls her Lissy in fairness, and she does sometimes say that it's not fair that she has only the one name - as both her sisters are known by the short forms of longer names, so the have two 'proper' names. But as I said before, she does like Alice as her name.

TotalPerspectiveVortex · 16/10/2016 18:08

Alice. But then as an Alice I'm pretty biased I think!

Wikkitikki · 16/10/2016 19:12

Margot

Chinlo · 16/10/2016 19:30

Margot is so cool (it's going through a bit of a boom in popularity right now though, if that bothers you at all). I understand why it is though, cos it's great. Alice on the other hand is really dull.

I wouldn't have foreseen any issue with spelling and pronunciation (I'm actually amazed that some people pronounce the T, I've never heard anyone say it like that in my life). And taking the T off the end looks super tacky.

SorenaJ · 16/10/2016 19:59

Alice

AGruffaloCrumble · 16/10/2016 20:01

I have a Margot and love it.

PaperdollCartoon · 16/10/2016 20:08

Pipi really?! I've never heard anyone try to pronounce Margot with the T? Can't believe anyone deliberately calls myself that.

Margot is one of my middle names. It's sort of my grandmothers name. I never liked it when I was younger but like it more now. My colleague has a little girl Margot and it's really grown on me. Definitely Margot over Alice, I think Alice is a bit boring.

Coey2016 · 16/10/2016 22:20

Alice

SansasEscape · 16/10/2016 22:26

I'd go with Alice. I think Margot is about to have a moment with Robbie being the new hot young thing.
