Amaya or Natalia?

Which of the two do you like most? DH is Spanish hence the two choices. Love pretty girl names that are somewhat unique or not that used and we live in the UK. Thank you

Amaya is very pretty, but will probably get confused with Maya/Mia a lot as that's very popular. So you/she might have to correct people a lot, not sure how annoying that would get.

I do prefer the sound of it to Natalia though.

Is it Am-ay-a or A-may-a?
Think I prefer Natalia over both of those, however.

Frazzled2207 · 09/10/2016 07:44

Although nice the issue with Amaya is it's going to be confused with the zillions of Mayas/Maias/Mias around.
Also unsure if if the pronunciation is a-mai-a or a-may-a (as in the month)

Natalia's lovely

Sophronia · 09/10/2016 07:57

Natalia

UnicornPee · 09/10/2016 08:10

Natalia is nice but would end up being called nat which is horrible.
Amaya is nice and not common.

Evergreen17 · 09/10/2016 08:18

I like Amaya but it is traditionally Basque. So if DH is Basque I think gorgeous but otherwise I prefer the other.

LeatherAndLace · 09/10/2016 08:19

Nat isn't horrible. I'd choose Natalia

Evergreen17 · 09/10/2016 08:20

And Amaya might be missed pronounced over here. It is an A sound like cAt for all As but here they might say more like in May Hmm
Beautiful name though

Buttwing · 09/10/2016 08:28

I love Natalia it was on my short list (my family is Italian) one thing that put me of though is people who pronounce it nat- ahh-lia I really don't like it. I know two Natalias and the both shorten it to Tali not Nat.

Mum8 · 09/10/2016 08:52

DH great great grandfather was Basque but that is in terms of Basque connections. Amaya is pronounced A and then like Maya. Do not like the nickname Nat or Tali for Natalia but heard also Nalia as a nickname which I like

Love Amaya! It's on our list. I know a little one who is 6 and she doesn't get confused with maya/mia.

Natalia would defo get Nat which is awful.

katemess12 · 09/10/2016 09:37

How about Naia? That's Basque, and fairly similar to both Amaya and Natalia, but without the Nat/Tali thing, and without being confused for just Maya.

MessyBun247 · 09/10/2016 09:38

Amaya sounds much prettier and softer.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/10/2016 09:53

Natalia.

I like Natalia, but pronounced
Nat-al-ya rather than Nat-ah-ya

Mum8 · 09/10/2016 11:39

Naia is nice but DH not fond. He seems to love Natalia. For me though I do not like the Nat and Tali abbreviations. If only I knew she will be called Natalia or Nalia for shorter that would be good. And of course I love Amaya

I like Amaya :)

A Natalia will very likely get "Nat" nicknames.... but it is a gorgeous name. What about Nadia?

Mum8 · 09/10/2016 11:51

Nice name, but knew a Nadia that makes me dislike the name

Amaya

WeArePregnant11 · 09/10/2016 14:20

Well, Amaya is super pretty :)

Natasha? it wouldn't have the danger of a Talia nn, but the nat would obviously still be a thing. But the most common nn for Natasha is Tasha, I think...

therootoftheroot · 09/10/2016 14:36

natalia
i know one who is only ever known as natalia
she is a gorgeous child-sweet and funny and kind

UserOne · 22/10/2016 00:12

Amaya is my daughters name and I regret it. Way too many Mia's & Maya's around right now. She may end up going by her middle name. I went to the park a few months back and heard 5 parents all calling their Maya's, 5!
Muslims and Japanese also use the name Amaya.

ladybird69 · 22/10/2016 00:22

Natalia is a family name, she is called talia or tali by friends and family never Nat, so my vote is for Natalia, it's ageless too xxx
