Which do you prefer for #3, with our other little ones names...
Archer, Margot and Hamish?
Or
Archer, Margot and Ralph?
Thanks!

In addition to the Judy Blume connection, Ralph is also an American euphemism for "vomit."

Hamish. But I'm Scottish dreams of Robert Carlyle as Hamish McBeth. Don't like Ralph and I'm too old to get the Judy Blume reference.

I completely agree with FrancisCrawford - Hamish is lovely, Ralph is not.

Is Ralph really considered upper-class in England? I've only known a few and posh is the last word that comes to mind for any of them! I don't think it's a very attractive name myself so I'd pick Hamish.

Hamish makes me think of hairy unattractive Scottish men. Ralph is ok if pronounced Ralph but don't like Rafe

Ralph would be fabulous if it wasn't slang for puke.

Thanks for all the feedback! I do remember the Ralph reference in 'Forever'Grin but as cultural connotations go I think that one's too tenuous to put me off the name. (Same goes for the vommitting thing, we even lived in the US for years and never heard the slang term ralph used.)
Ralph probably flows better with our other names, but I think Hamish is winning - we have Scottish parents so there's a heritage link. Also our son's nn is often Archie which I think goes ok with Hamish as another old Scottish name?
Originalmavis, I love the name Angus more than both Hamish or Ralph, but sadly I think it's too close to Archer.

It was 30 years ago that I read Forever and I still remember that it was a girl from Maine that gave him the STD. Weird things stick in one's mind!
