Depends... We had a JRT named Chad, I think that's a lovely name for a boy also. On the other hand we once had a mongrel named Scooby....

Haha if our next baby is a girl, our husband is going to name her after one of our cats. I think it's fine, anything done with love has to be a good thing. Apart from bestiality of course..

It put me off. I had a retriever called Ben, and I loved that name for my baby son...but vetoed it simply because my dog had had that name. It seemed wrong. Like we chose it for our dog, so that classified it as a pet's name.

I was named after my mum's dog. She was still alive when I was born. Didn't seem odd at the time but I'm sure other people thought it was a bit crazy

Depends on the name. I had a friend who called her DD Katy, which was the name of a dog she'd had as a child, but only people who knew her so far back would be likely to raise an eyebrow about it.

On the other hand, if you're planning to name your child Fido, Rover or Tibbles it's not so great

A relative is named the same as a childhood pet (cat). It always makes me happy to think of the connection, though it was not intentional.

Actually had DD been a boy she would have been named after my sister's cat and for middle name a friend's dog.

If you see your pets as one of the family, why not? our pets are so pure and full of unconditional love. I would name a child after one of my fur babies.

If it's a dog that knows/responds to it's name and would be confused if you suddenly changed it then I wouldn't. If it's a goldfish who really isn't going to mind that he's called Frank instead of Freddie now then go for it.

I think its fine but my DH disagrees! If we'd had a boy I wanted to call it the same name as my childhood dog, just because I happened to really like it and chose the name for my dog when I was little. But DH swiftly vetoed it as he didn't want to name it after a pet. Tbh i do think my family would find it weird as he was a big part of our life and a well loved and remembered dog!

Dh wants to put our cats name (Fry) in the list for this baby if it's a boy. I have said no.

I toyed with using the cats name for DD. Didn't in the end but when I posted here for thoughts, it was almost overwhelmingly a "yes" to using the name.

My childhood dog and bestest friend in the whole world was called Ollie. He died a few years ago. Everyone and their mum loved Ollie. I liked the name Oliver for my DS, not because it was like Ollie (though I actually quite liked a little dedication to the dog that got me through some awful times) but because I liked the name. Decided against it in the end as thought people would find it a bit odd. But I'm one of those people who cares about others opinions when I really shouldn't

A friend had a cat called Oscar and then named her son Oscar. Feline Oscar was still very much alive and well when child Oscar was born, though had gone off to live a few houses down the road. I found it a little odd, if I'm honest, but it would have been substantially more odd if the feline version had still been living with them!

Admittedly we are considering a middle name which happens to also be one of our pet's name at the moment, if the pet wasn't alive still and if we didn't love another name so much I'd happily use it as a first name too tbh, but as they are alive I think I'd find it a bit odd!
