Opinions on Bronwyn?

DH and I are trying and failing to think of a name for DC4, it looks like we've already used all of the names we like. We tried some naming websites and drawing up a shortlist but out of a list of 500 girls names and 500 boys names there wasn't a single one that we both ticked.

DH has suggested Bronwyn or River for a girl.

We've got nothing for a boy.

-wyn is the male ending for Welsh names. The girl's name is Bronwen.

Ah flip, I knew it didn't look right when I wrote it!

DH also suggested Anais and got instantly vetoed because I couldn't even pronounce it.

I rather like it. For reasons I'll never know Bronwen (with every spelling variation going) was a hugely popular name when I was growing up in 1990s South Africa, so I knew lots of them. It's rare enough here. Is it a Welsh name?

I had a rabbit called Bronwen! I named it after something...a book or TV show in the 80s?? Cant remember

Love it. Welsh but easy to pronounce and spell for English speakers. Unusual but recognisable. You/she are likely to get a lot of questions about whether you have a Welsh background, which may get annoying?

There's a Bronwen Llewellyn in the Odd Thomas books who everyone calls 'Stormy', which is also a cool nickname.

DS2's name apparently has Welsh origins so it wouldn't be too out of place

I like Bronwen. The only thing I would say is that I know one Bronwen who gets called 'Bronners' which I think sounds ugly and a bit pointless given it isn't any shorter, but I don't know if that's common or not.

I have got a Bronwyn I don't live in Wales so I don't care if I've spelt it wrong I think it looks pretty, and we've had lots and lots of compliments

I have only ever met one Bronwen in my life, and she was from South Africa!

I like it as a name though. She didn't shorten hers to anything either. She was occasionally called "Bron" by close friends if they were talking to her directly, but usually she was just Bronwen.

Chin the equivalent-in-popularity boys' name at the time was Jonty. Which I'm pretty sure isn't a name (?) .

Ours were all NN'd "Bronny", and were uniformly good at hockey, if that helps your decision-making, OP.
