Posted in craicnet but it's fierce quiet!

We already have Noah, Sophia and Chloe and if this baby is a boy he will be Luca or Leo. Surname is easy to match with. We have no girl names. Juliet was in the running but my new niece is Juliette so that's gone!

On my list are:

Penelope (nickname Poppy)
Poppy - is it enough for a grown up?!
Lola - I love it but is it knackery?!
Elise/Alyssa - love Alice but can't use
Posy - prefer this to Poppy but despite being similar to Rosie, not sure it's viewed as a real name
Lara
Amaya

Be honest!

I wouldn't use Poppy for Penelope.
It's an entirely different name.
Nell or Penny Are the obvious nns,
I can't stand Lola. It's awful.
I love Poppy. It's on our short list.
I think it's fine for an adult. It'd be an especially brilliant name for some born on Remembrance Day.
Yes it's sweet, but so is Katie, Jenny
Molly, Lily, Sophie. There's an abundance of them.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/09/2016 13:21

Elise is gorgeous, but be prepared for it to be mistaken for Elsie
Not as thrilled about Alyssa.
Im not fussed on Posy. It doesn't even sound like a real name,
I don't understand the hype with Lara, sorry.

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 27/09/2016 13:21

I like Poppy and Lara. Not keen on Posy.

Other options could be Pippa (I really like this one) or Kara (bit of an Irish connection - could go for Caragh if more traditional spelling preferred).

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/09/2016 13:23

I don't like Amaya but Maya's nice.
I feel I've been quite negative, but you did request, honesty, and as I always say. These are opinion. They're not facts

Canyouforgiveher · 27/09/2016 13:26

Love your existing names/boy's name. I also love Juliet and Alice!

I don't like Poppy. especially as I am Irish - my parents used to use that word for potatoes.
Don't like Lola much.
I think Posy is very much a little girl's name. I know loads of adults will have the name etc but for me it is too cutsy for a girl.

Lara is lovely. How about Sylvia, Clara, Honor, Olivia, Bridget, Elissa, Eliza?

sycamore54321 · 28/09/2016 01:22

I think with all the other double- vowel sounds at the end of your other children's names, a consonant sound to close would go together much better. Elise is my favourite of your list. On a different tack, I'd also suggest Frances or Marianne as matching the style of your existing names.

To my (Irish) ears, Lola sounds like a joke name and is in any case far too similar to Chloe. I agree that Poppy, Posy etc are very childish names.

Would you consider Emer /Eimear? I like how it sounds with your others.

katemess12 · 28/09/2016 01:29

Penelope is my favourite, but I wouldn't think Poppy would stick for a nn.

I also like Lola, but know that I'm in the minority on that one.

Not fussed on the rest. Really don't like Posy or Amaya though.

Love Juliet. Sorry to hear you can't use it (and that's the better spelling of the two as well, imo)

I like Lara (but there's a hype? Confused)

I like the name Mara and it would go beautifully with your children's names. Just think that this is worth a mention as you like the sound of the names Lara and Amaya

ample · 28/09/2016 01:57

Elise is lovely but similar to the very popular 'Elsie'.

Alice over Poppy. Imho Alice is a classic, Poppy (no offence) will never be

ElspethFlashman · 28/09/2016 02:15

Lara is the only one that's ok, IMO.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/09/2016 09:19

I too, love Bridget and Frances.
From your list I like Alyssa (Lyssi), and Elise.
They are equally, nice names.

PointlessUsername · 28/09/2016 09:21

From your list I like Lola and Posy.

MammyToBe1216 · 28/09/2016 09:29

Elise is the only one I like.
I'm not a fan of names like Poppy, Posy and Lola. They sound more like nicknames to me.

villainousbroodmare · 29/09/2016 20:50

Lara, Penelope or Elise are imo the only ones that go with the rest. I think that Lola, Poppy and especially Posy are very juvenile.
