I love these names so much. Yes, I know all about Beatrix Potter! Yes, I know a lot of people think Tabitha is a cat's name but I don't really know any cats so it doesn't bother me. So, those things aside... Which do you prefer?

I prefer Tabitha, I think. I've met a couple of Jemimas, but no Tabithas.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/09/2016 09:50

Jemima.

But I like Tabitha as well.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/09/2016 10:50

Ooh, love them both.
At a push, Tabitha

Tabitha.

Don't like Jemima, and the idea that it's associated with racism in the US would put me off. Your child will likely travel to the US at some point in their life, and their name will probably get a few raised eyebrows.

BellaShLex · 25/09/2016 18:32

Both are lovely but Tabitha is beautiful and unusual.

TheScottishPlay · 25/09/2016 18:36

Tabitha is lovely.

Footle · 25/09/2016 18:59

I used to know a lovely one called Jimey for short.

blinkowl · 25/09/2016 20:49

Tabitha

Jojo13 · 25/09/2016 21:03

Love Jemima

Poocatcherchampion · 25/09/2016 21:06

If it is thought to be racist in the us doesn't it challenge that stereotype if it is also a normal British name?

We toyed with both for dd2 and 3. Dd3 turned out to be a boy.

AngharadTheSplendid · 26/09/2016 00:35

Jemima is fab

MistressMolecules · 26/09/2016 01:14

Both pretty but prefer Tabitha.

PointlessUsername · 26/09/2016 01:25

Tabitha.

lizzieoak · 26/09/2016 06:20

Both are lovely but if I had to choose, I slightly prefer Tabitha.

dontwannapullahammie · 26/09/2016 06:29

Tabitha

Roomba · 26/09/2016 07:00

Tabitha.

Bambooshoots14 · 26/09/2016 07:03

I know someone with both Smile

MothershipG · 26/09/2016 07:12

I've met 2 little Jemimas recently so it's definitely on the up, don't know if that's an issue for you OP?

ClaudiaWankleman · 26/09/2016 07:22

Have a close friend called Jemima. We have both travelled extensively in the USA, including the south. The name has never come up as a racist thing

It just gets trotted out on MN at every mention of the name. My favourite pearl clutching example.
