Sorry - I know this thread is a bit old but just wanted to offer my input. Being called Elizabeth myself, as a child I HATED it, ever since I can remember I've gone by a name short for Elizabeth. I've always felt like it's an old ladies name (especially as it's coupled with Anne as a middle name!!) When I got to about 18 I decided I was going to change my name by deed poll to just the shortened version. I didn't ever get round to doing it, and Elizabeth bothers me less now - in fact I can see why some people like it. But being the only young Elizabeth I knew really upset me as a child, I used to cry when I had a supply teacher because I knew they'd say Elizabeth in the register and was always worried the other kids would laugh at me for having an old ladies name. If changing my driving license, passport etc was simple I would definitely change my name to the shortened version.
