Hi Mums
I'm 26 weeks pregnant right now and I'm due on 25/12/16 . And it'll be me and my husbands first child together Grin.

We found out that we're having a little boy and are tied between two names and I thought that you lovely mums could help us.

Me and my hubby are both obsessed with lions so we've picked names have the word Lion included.

The first name we picked is Haidar which means King of the jungle.
The second name we picked is Yeruslan which means lion.

The middle name is Phillip after my hubby Smile.

Thanks for the help

Love MrsLester XX.

Long list of lion linked names here.
And look at that, most of them aren't even weird!!

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2016 20:32

I was named after my dad's obsession - and that was s child in a classic book, so at least it is a well known name- but it's a hard cross to bear if you're not interested in the obessssion, or nothing like it.

Arwen or Galadriel? BikeRunSki

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/09/2016 20:51

oh, Heidi or Lucy?

Bambambini · 19/09/2016 20:56

Pocahontas?

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2016 20:57

Alice

Bambambini · 19/09/2016 20:58

Drat - Alice was my first guess!

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/09/2016 21:19

If I met someone called Alice I would never immediately relate it to the book. Lovely name.

My Dad loved tigers but my brother Stripey and I managed to get off without any damage from his interest.

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2016 21:31

True, true, Alice is not unusual enough to immediately bring the books to mind - unless you knew my dad. He collected different editions, translations and illustrators of the Alice books, and others by and about Lewis Carrol. He had 2 boys before me and I was heralded as the girl "Alice", that he'd always wanted. The books took over a whoke floor of the the house; trios our always involved rummaging round second book shops; trips abroad the same. Thkng was, I was never that interested despite my dad's enthusiasm. I am not a girly girl, I don't look like the Tenniel illustrations s d I didn't want a white rabbit night light!!!

There is nothing wrong with my name as a name, but in my case it's a baton passing on my dad's obsession. I suspect any Lion name might be similar in this case.

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/09/2016 21:47

Was one of your brothers called Lewis?

I think these things always backfire. My brother raced home when his daughter was born so that he could paint her room pink and wanted her to be girly (he already had a boy) he even bought her a lovely pink bike with tassels on the handles etc. She wouldn't even look at it and just rode her brothers BMX :o She grew up, married and now has 3 sons. He clearly still loved her as much as ever but I think he was always a little disappointed that never got his girly girl. Maybe if he hadn't pushed it so much she wouldn't have pushed it away - possibly the same with you with Alice.

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2016 21:53

Oddly, neither of my brothers are called Lewis, or Charles (Lewis Carrol was a pseudonym for Charles Dodgson).

BertrandRussell · 19/09/2016 21:55

Change your own names to Yeruslan and Haidar. Sorted.

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/09/2016 21:58

However much it was coloured by his obsession Bike it was done with love it seems to me and it is a lovely name :)

Littlelondoner · 19/09/2016 22:03

Yeruslan for some reason everytime I look at it or say it I hear Jerusalem in my head...not entirely sure why

Bambambini · 19/09/2016 22:17

Yip - Jerusalem jumped to my mind. Yeruslan sounds kind of close to the israeli pronunciation.

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2016 22:21

I have no doubt about that Wankers. I just always felt a bit bad that I was never into it, as much as he was. Hopefully the OP's child will also be obsessed with lions!

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/09/2016 22:29

You shouldn't feel bad, it was his obsession not yours - I never enjoyed the books either, or the Lion witch and the wardrobe - I never liked anything that was about being in a different place that wasn't home. i have form for getting home sick if I'm over 5 miles from my house though :o

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2016 23:26

This is exactly what I mean by not labelling your child with your obsession via their name.

Maggie2828 · 19/09/2016 23:55

Rory or Leo

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 20/09/2016 00:00

Albert or Wallace?

onecrazycook · 20/09/2016 00:09

My god, this stuff makes my blood boil. It's not a competition to see who can come up with the most unique/wacky name you know, OP. It's your child and the poor boy will get the piss ripped out of him at school if you call him something so outlandish and pretentious. Stop being so selfish!
