Finlo

Thoughts?

We like Finley nn Fin, but it's common. We like Arlo but a close friend just used it.... Hey, what about Finlo!

We live in a global world these days where the origin of a name is less important, so what do we think of this one?

Finlo or Finlaw were very common variations of Findlay in mediaeval Scotland, predominantly in the North-East. Not made up at all, at least no more that any other 'proper' name. I like it.

I don't really like Finn names, but if you like it, use it.

MrsNuckyThompson · 17/09/2016 21:33

Ridiculous. Sorry.

enchantmentandlove · 17/09/2016 23:46

I much prefer Finn or Finlay I'm afraid, if you like it go for it though.

MephistoMarley · 17/09/2016 23:48

It might be a Manx name but since Manx culture is very little known it will be assumed to be made up by 99.9% of people you meet. It looks and sounds daft.

CrepeDeChineWag · 18/09/2016 00:38

How about Filo (as in pastry?)

PointlessUsername · 18/09/2016 00:41

Why not use Milo if you like it?
I prefer it to finlo.

Marmighty · 18/09/2016 00:45

What about frodo?

Sophronia · 18/09/2016 11:41

I knew it was a Manx name. I like it.

We're probably not going to use it, but I do think this is an interesting subject.

There's nothing inherently daft or ridiculous about the name. Many people use Finley, Finlay, Milo, Arlo, etc. and nobody blinks an eye. They're very similar. But because the name is not very well heard of, it becomes seen by some as ridiculous. It's strange really. If the name was top 100, everyone would think it's fine.

I don't love it. It sounds like a diet cooking oil!

GinIsIn · 18/09/2016 15:31

PS there are plenty of names in the top 100 that I think you'll find people still don't think is fine.

hardtopinpoint · 18/09/2016 15:37

It's a name? The choose it if you like it.

My first thought was "Finlo... Sweet chariot...." though Smile

Only1scoop · 18/09/2016 15:38

Just no

MrsGsnow18 · 18/09/2016 18:49

I personally don't like how it sounds.
I wouldn't critisise it if I heard someone's child was called Finlo but might think its usual.
Finton is one of the nicest 'Finn' type names I think.
