We are having a boy, we have no names that we agree on.

I like classics, Thomas is my top contender.

DP likes more out there names, his favourites are Atlas, and Greek mythology names.

Does anyone have any suggestions that meet in the middle? We are vetoing everything the other likes and cannot come to a compromise!

Floki is dire! I love Hector.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 11/09/2016 09:33

Please please, don't call you child Atlas!

Trinpy · 11/09/2016 09:37

Maybe as a compromise your Dh could change his own name to Floki or Atlas and your ds can be called Thomas (which is lovely) Wink.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 11/09/2016 09:39

It's a shame you are not having a girl. Phoebe, Cassandra and Pandora are all Greek mythology names but still fairly classical.

For boys all I could find from a quick Google is Jason(!!!) and Hector.

Antony (and cleopatra)?

ChozzleopsTheThird · 11/09/2016 09:59

He liked Maximus, I just agreed that yes Maximus is nice and it could be the front runner, and now he doesn't like Maximus. I fear he's being difficult for the sake of it Angry Confused

Sounds like you like top ten name and he likes names that would be well outside the top 500. Not an easy compromise, for sure. There is a middle ground between nice-but-dull and completely crazy though. Have you taken a look at the National Statistics baby name charts? You could start at the lower reaches of the top 100 and scan down, writing down any names you like. Get DH to do the same and see if there's any common ground.

That's what we did to find a boy's name. I liked short, simple but not-too-popular two syllable names (he vetoed a few due to being footballer names) and he liked ridiculous names like Ferdinand Hmm But, thankfully, there was one name we both liked and that was that!

albertcampionscat · 11/09/2016 10:13

Theseus with Theo for short?

Serenity05 · 11/09/2016 11:02

Floki?? Oh dear...

What about:

Cassius
Atticus
Cosmo
Rufus
Augustus

What does he now have against Maximus?

Catsgowoof · 11/09/2016 12:17

i can't remember the name npw but there's a website whwre you can each separately pick names you like/don't mind then it generates a list of all the ones you both like

Ememem84 · 11/09/2016 12:34

I know of the following:

Antonicus
Ptarmigan
Thorsten
Loki
Argo

My face names for boys (hypothetical as we don't have kids) are:

  • thorin
-tobias
  • Jude
  • atticus (it wouldn't work with our surname sadly...)

I'm sorry, I haven't liked any of the suggestions so far Sad

I think the issue may be that I don't like any names more than the fact that his suggestions are too our there!
