Uncommon Name for No.3

I have two boys and I am pregnant with my third child. I don't yet know the gender.
My main aims when choosing a name (and so far my children's names pass this) are:

  1. They aren't popular - I wouldn't want to have another child for instance in their class with the same name (we live in Ireland) so no Amelia's, Emily's, Oliver's, Lucas
  2. They aren't wacky made up names - I wouldn't go for Apple or River for instance
  3. They "go with" our surname which is an O' Name
  4. I like to think the names I have chosen for my sons would suit them if they decided to me prime minister or rock stars

Suggestions please GrinGrin

Eowyn for a girl? ( pronounced Aowyn, Can be spelled with A too)

BendydickCuminsnatch · 11/09/2016 18:50

Well I was correct too 😄 because the Ysanne I know pronounces it Yiz-Anne. :-p

She has sisters called Xanthe and Zeinab if either of those take your fancy OP! X, Y, Z!

BWatchWatcher · 11/09/2016 18:53

For the love of god, don't name ypur child Ysanne. You'd be sentencing her to years of 'Y what'?

There's a lot of very common/ classic names which you hardly ever hear of kids being called these days.

David
Christine
Josie
Georgina
Nina
Roland
Anne
Mary
Jerome

Vaughan I love and have heard of but Kobe (?). Is it pronounced Kob-ee? (In which case I know a Nigerian with that name). Kobe to rhyme with 'lobe' is kinda weird, but maybe it is an Irish name.

I love Igraine, I've only ever met one in real life

Jodders · 12/09/2016 08:08

Merrymarigold Kobe is pronounced Co-bee. As in Kobe Byrant the American basketball player or the Japanese city/steak Kobe.
Lots of people assume it is spelled Coby. I like names that look different too.

A lot of the names being suggested are very popular here. Maybe Ireland hasn't caught up with the UK. We have lots of David's, Sarah, Lydia, Mark, Paul, Simion's....these really don't appeal to me. I like modern unusual without being wacky. If that makes sense.

Also have an O Name. In England though.

Have 2 DSs

A DD would have been Ramona
Considered but rejected boys names were: Laurence and Arnold

MerryMarigold · 12/09/2016 20:33

Oh ok. The one I know is spelled Kobi but pronounced the same way. I don't know any Davids, Andrews or Marys under 40! My kids have been to three schools and I have 3 kids so that's a lot of kids I know of.

How about Farrah for a girl? Zavi for a boy. (Rather than traditional Xavier). Igraine sounds like Migraine!

bluebellsparklypants · 12/09/2016 20:39

tabitha ...I like the idea of calling her tabby then using full name if telling her off!
(Fictional baby there)

Jonah / Guy for a boy

My grandmother's a Dulcie and despises it. The amount of people who pronounce it "dull-key" or "doll-key" is astronomical. It's an awful name, haha.
