Douglas or Gregory

I've posted before about Douglas (to be shortened to Dougie) which I'm pretty keen on for our DC3 due in a few months but DH is less keen and is now trying to push Gregory/Greg instead. I'm struggling to imagine calling a tiny baby 'Greg' although I do like the idea of it on an older boy and man.

Any strong views on either of these names?

Both lovely - unusual but not 'made up'. I recently watched Wolf Hall and Cromwell's son is Gregory. Really grew on me.

KoalaDownUnder · 06/09/2016 12:25

I really can't abide Gregory. Greg is a 'dad name', and an ugly-sounding one at that.

Douglas is slightly better.

Greedysquirrels · 06/09/2016 17:31

Pretty comfortable that the supporters outweigh the haters of our name choice - thanks all!

Love Rory as a nn for Gregory!

But prefer Doug, wish I could use it.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 06/09/2016 23:04

I prefer gregor or Douglas

DamnGood314 · 06/09/2016 23:07

Gregory.
I dont hate Douglas though. It is nearly ready to come back.

IrregularCommentary · 06/09/2016 23:22

Big fan of Gregory. Would have been on my shortlist if we weren't having a girl.

MrsJoeyMaynard · 06/09/2016 23:30

I like both of them a lot. I wanted them on our boy's shortlist, but DH has vetoed them Sad

On balance though, I prefer Gregory, as I'm less keen on Dougie / Duggie than Greg as shortenings.

I would try not to worry about Greg not suiting a tiny baby though, remember your DS won't be a tiny baby for all that long.

Timeless and cool for little people and big really they're not.

Douglas!

Gregory puts me in mind of grey eggs.

Joinourclub · 07/09/2016 07:10

I think they are very similar types of names and dislike them equally!

WhatTheDickensian · 07/09/2016 07:13

Dougie is quite sweet. I know two under 10 but it's certainly not common.

I really dislike Greg but I like Gregory more.

katemess12 · 07/09/2016 10:04

The Douglas I know gets Doug for short, never Dougie.

Gregory is nicer. Makes me think of Gregory Peck.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/09/2016 10:22

Douglas is okay.

Gregory is dreadful.

Greedysquirrels · 07/09/2016 11:02

Oh dear, I'm going to try to agree to disagree with the Gregory haters. It's really grown on me and is looking like our best content right now.

I like Gregory and it's due a comeback IMO.
