Have your kids' names passed the test of time?

These days I change my mind on my top 3 baby names every few months. I feel like, whichever name I chose, I'll probably wish I'd chosen something else before this kid is 3!
So does this actually happen? Of course you're emotionally bought into your own child's name once they're here, but do you ever wish you'd gone with another option a few years on? Or do your children's names feel dated by the time they start school?

I love both my DC's names. Only time I have slight doubts is when I come on here and read negative comments about them 😀

When I was pregnant (long long ago) folk were suggesting the 'in' names of the time. I stuck to my guns and named my sons 'classics'.
So glad I did, even though they are very popular now they will stand the test of time.
Can't remember the last time I heard a baby called Shane, Grant, Duane, the names which were suggested.
Just had a little shudder at the thought of son called Duane.

DS's name is in the Old Testament so, yeah, pretty enduring

Yeah, kind of agree with Ham - I had my oldest at 19 and called her Savannah. I still love it but, in the demographic and social circle she is currently in (home counties private school) I probably wouldn't choose it again. My younger two have much more mumsnet approved names (though one is sometimes called boring (Jessica) and the other pretentious (Xanthe) - so couple that with the 'chavvy' label that Savannah gets and I have the full set! )

However, she's going to stage school in Sept and wants to be a dancer and/or MT actress so I think she'll make the name work for her. She likes it anyway and it's generally shortened (to Vannah not Savvy!!)

The only name I regret slightly is DS1's middle name. It's my brother's name, but I don't particularly like it. DS does like it though, so I guess I got it right.

I still love DS's first name. It is sometimes described as a 'naughty boy' name on here, which annoys me a bit as it's a name which reflects our cultural heritage and we chose it a couple of years before it became popular.

DS2's name is a perennial classic and I've never regretted it.

I was a bit braver with DS3's name, but it's become more popular in recent years and seems to be well liked on MN. I'm glad I was ahead of the curve and I still love it.

The only names that pass the test of time according to mumsnet are James Thomas William etc but if everyone had those names it would be a boring world and there would be no need for a forum like this
I like those nsmes btw but just an observation from looking on here
Anything other than a classic like one of the above including biblical and it might get called chavvy although this board is far removed from reality in my opinion

Totally stood the test of time.

My sister has a name that was popular in the 70s-80s and is very dated now.

I am glad my parents gave me the timeless classic.

We chose a short, simple classic name for DD and I love it more now than when we chose it. People always compliment it (to my face at least). My only regret is not picking something longer with more potential for nicknames.

When we had just had her I actually started a thread on here asking for opinions on it plus an alternative and it got utterly slated. Recently I saw a thread by someone else about DD's name and a lot of people said they love it! There no rhyme or reason on the baby names board.

I also went back through my baby boy name list recently for when I was pregnant and didn't know we were having a girl. I really don't like most of the names on it! So weird how you can change your mind.

I love my dd's name it's one of those names that suits a person of any age. I know a few toddlers around my dd's age with the same name, but I also know two pensioners with this name too. It can be shortened/nicknamed easily too so there are lots of variations to choose from if she doesn't like it when she's older.
I'm satisfied we made a good choice

DD both relatively "safe" names Amy and Sophie, I'm Mandy which you don't hear many of these days... If I have a third I'm calling her Milly molly Mandy

2 boys I like classic names as I think they last and both James and Luke happen to be biblical names, Oliver and Jack also were possible but he really doesn't suit them so glad I went with Luke, only thing is a lack of nicknames that his brother has

I occasionally wish I'd gone with names with better nicknames for my DDs as I sometimes end up calling Valentina "Val" which we both hate... But apart from that I'm happy with the decision.

My name, Francesca, seems to be getting more popular these days too. As are my siblings names for that matter.

Both dds' names are in the bible so yes they have stood the test if time

I deliberately chose biblical names as I didn't want them to be "fashionable"

And I'm not religious.

They all have very traditional names with nicknames - we wanted them to stand the test of time as a result of DH and I both having names which date us.

Ds is 2 and I love his name more than ever. It had always been my boys name though since I was about 10 andyou dad introduced me to the Beatles. It's getting more popular though which I don't like but it suits ds perfectly.

I have a name that's often described on here as being a little girls name - ending in an ie/y sound. It is also a diminutive of several longer names, which is again frowned upon in here.

I love my name. I'm so glad my mum chose it for me, and didn't lumber me with a full 'formal' name for options! I go by a shorterned nn version outside of work a lot.
I like knowing my mum put lots of thought into giving me a special, and relatively unique name rather than a top ten 'classic' name. I also like having a pretty name, I don't see it as childish as I am grown up and it is still my name!

Never regretted any of my 3, and do you know why? I think it's because I didn't ask Mumsnet Have just asked advice on my fourth and although replies have been mostly lovely there's always the odd negative Nelly intent on being rude!

DC's names are biblical so have stood the test of time.

My name is not in the top 200 of current list of popular names and dates me to a particular era. I don't particularly like it

We named 36 year old DS an uncommon name at the time, but I still love it and it endures as a quite popular name now. I plucked his middle name out of nowhere and he hates it.
My DD has a name of the 80s, it's dated and common in women in their early thirties. I don't mind it, but my DH at the time loved it. Her middle name is my name.
Next DS was so expected to be a girl we didn't pick a boys name until I was pacing up and down with contractions, then spotted a quite classic, very boring name on the telly. It's rarely used now, and has been shortened since birth. I wouldn't choose it again. His middle name is James which would have been my first choice.
DD 2 is Charlotte. I adore her name. Middle names, my choice and uncommon now, plus Jane for her great grandma who died a few days before she was born.
DD 3 very simple, classic name, followed by Elizabeth which I still love, and my mum's maiden name.

I think most names put people in an age bracket TBF.
My friends are Karen, Linda, Mandy, Beverley, Barbara and the like.
When I named my daughter Nicola, her friends were Sarahs, Claires Victorias, Hayleys, Jodies
