Today I read about an American man from the early 20th century called Ivy.

Any other examples? Just for fun.

I know a male Kim and a male Darcy.

Skiver123 · 24/08/2016 23:10

I know a guy named Laurie and another's Lesley. I know a female name Julian and a Dylan.

Sugarcoma · 24/08/2016 23:17

Leslie was also a boys' name first. Ages ago I met someone who was convinced Michael would eventually become a girls' name.

My husband watches something called Storage Wars (I think it is that one - he watches a few of those types of programs) and there is a chap called Ivy on there.

MrsC2810 · 24/08/2016 23:55

I know of a Kym, Beverley and Stacey who are all male.

RedLarvaYellowLarva · 24/08/2016 23:59

I went to school with a boy Jody. None of us thought anything of it.
I knew a guy whose middle name was Kim. We were late teens when I knew him - he absolutely hated it.
I knew a male Jordon, I know it's mostly a male name but this was at height Katie Price fame time.
I worked with a male Laurie - always felt a very feminine name to me. I know it is a male name though, but even so.

DesolateWaist · 24/08/2016 23:59

I was at school with a male Kimberly.
I have met a male Kerry, which I think is not uncommon in Ireland.

Of course Evelyn Waugh was married to another Evelyn.

RedLarvaYellowLarva · 25/08/2016 00:00

Oh I also knew a Jocelyn, he went by Joss. He did not like the long version at all.

RedLarvaYellowLarva · 25/08/2016 00:00

And a male Ceri at college.

Helenluvsrob · 25/08/2016 00:01

Ceri Davis who edits the archers ( the best episodes !) is most definitely mr ceri.

VimFuego101 · 25/08/2016 00:08

I knew a Holley, who introduced himself to everyone as 'Holley yes I know it's a girls name'.

AtiaoftheJulii · 25/08/2016 00:19

Was it Ivy Lee, OP? Wondering if you read the same article as me this morning!

HoratioNightboy · 25/08/2016 01:16

Ivie was a Scottish boy's name long before Ivy came along for girls. It's kind of fallen out of use in the last 80 years or so. A Galwegian form of John, apparently.

Lots of men in the Clan Campbell were called Celestine, back in days of yore. Can't see it making a comeback somehow!

Angiepoise · 25/08/2016 01:25

Yes, Atia!

TheFirie · 25/08/2016 03:34

Andrea is a boy name in Italian but a girl name in French

CoverYourEarsTeam · 25/08/2016 03:53

I used to know a male Kim, also a girl called Darcie and her (slightly older) male cousin Darcy. I've met a female Rory and my husband has a male cousin called Kerry.
(I do feel a little sorry for Noel Mary Timothy ... poor man Wink)

Cami12 · 25/08/2016 06:42

Yup I know a male Tracey and a male Stacey. Both really great guys who have become very successful. (Just goes to show the man maketh the name and not the other way round as we would often have it on these debates).

YvaineStormhold · 25/08/2016 06:46

Bob Wilson's middle name was Primrose.

YvaineStormhold · 25/08/2016 06:47

Oops. Is, I should say.

He's not dead. So that's nice Smile

DesolateWaist · 25/08/2016 08:27

I had a male and female Jordan in the same class once.

twoundertwowillbefun · 25/08/2016 08:32

My (male) doctor as a kid was called Valerie

EllenDegenerate · 25/08/2016 08:39

I know a male Vivian and an Eden.

They are male names though.
