I thought I had decided on a name for my little girl (due in 8 weeks) but I'm having second thoughts... I'm down to Emma or Lilia. What do you guys think?

Emma. It's a little bit 'safe' and unexciting, but also kind of timeless. I don't like Lilia. (Sorry)

GreenGoth89 · 14/08/2016 17:31

Lilia pronounced - lil-e-a or lil-e-a

If lil-e-a then much prefer that to Emma. Emma is so very safe!

Summerbluues · 14/08/2016 17:41

Since Emma is in my top 5.. I'd have to say Emma! I love it..so timeless and classic. Also not too popular this days. Lilia is lovely but Lily is so so common at the moment. Although Emma is "safer" I actually think it'd stand out more.

BabooshkaKate · 14/08/2016 17:43

I would go for Emma if you're living in Britain. I am from somewhere where Lilia is a common name and it is pronounced like 'Lee-lah' with both Ls sounding like the L in lollipop. In the UK I've only ever heard it pronounced 'Lily-ah' which is wrong and annoying.

... it's part of a long list of names butchered by poor pronunciation.

Womble75 · 14/08/2016 17:49

I'm an Emma. I love my name. And I wouldn't describe myself as safe and unexciting lol. Never had another in my class or workplace, it's not as common as people think.. And it doesn't date. Smile

Emma, it is timeless, there aren't that many about (it's way down the lists these days). Won't date, and is quite pretty.

I have an Emma (20) - it's a timeless name IMO - I teach reception and have never taught an Emma and DD has never had another Emma in her class so not that common over the years (loads of Emilys). I am not that keen on Lilia and would pronounce it in the way that annoys Babooshka if I just saw it written down.

I have an Emma (9) and she is definitely not safe and unexciting! Confused

MrsGsnow18 · 14/08/2016 18:48

Emma, it's a classic and beautiful name.

I'm not really sure about how to pronounce the other, but personally doesn't apeal to me.

WaitrosePigeon · 14/08/2016 18:52

Emma is boring, in my opinion.

Love Lillia. Lil-e-a

LippyLiz · 14/08/2016 18:52

Emma

winewolfhowls · 14/08/2016 18:53

Emma is lovely and sounds intelligent

spankhurst · 14/08/2016 18:56

Emma is classy, feminine and timeless.
Lilia sounds (to me) made up.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 14/08/2016 18:57

Emma by a country mile for me. It's beautiful and timeless as pps have said. I find Lilia a bit too flowery for my taste.

DramaAlpaca · 14/08/2016 19:02

Emma, definitely.

HoratioNightboy · 14/08/2016 19:46

Lilia used to be a brand of sanitary towel so that would put me off. Pity, as I quite like it otherwise. But unless your name is Dr. White then it prbably doesn't matter. Grin

KoalaDownUnder · 15/08/2016 02:33

Lilia.

Emma is dull.

Wayfarersonbaby · 15/08/2016 02:39

I like Lilia; it's beautiful and much more unusual than Emma!

Rainbowqueeen · 15/08/2016 03:22

Emma

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/08/2016 00:14

Emma, but only just!
