Hi all,

I started a thread earlier about names for our fourth daughter but after more discussion with DH we've managed to compile a shortlist. I would very much appreciate any help you could offer us!

We already have a Cecilia Juliet - who I envisioned being a Cecily but now goes solely by Lia, which I don't like! It's up to her what she likes to be called obviously but I wouldn't like to end up with another child whose name I don't very much like! We also have an Annabelle Matilda, who goes by Anna, and an Emma Grace, who we adopted when she was seven years old and so we did not name her. I do love the name Emma, however.

Names we like but can't use for various reasons are Isobel, Arabella, Anastasia, Lucy and Rose/Rosie.

Our last name is Sinclair, so ideally we are looking for a classic, pretty girls' name which is also timeless and elegant and goes well with the surname Sinclair and sister's names Cecilia (Lia), Annabelle (Anna) and Emma.

Our shortlist is:

Eliza
Charlotte/Lottie
Eleanor/Ellen
Imogen
Eloise
Lara
Christina
Claudia
Esme
Alice
Sophia

I would be very grateful for any opinions regarding these names, and suggestions are still very much welcome! It would be helpful if you could tell me what you think of them and perhaps put them into an order of preference, or pair them together with a middle name. Thank you in advance!

I like them all apart from Imogen, Eloise, Christina and Lara.

I'd go with Claudia, partly because I like it but also because it ends in an 'a' so ties in with your other names, and it can't really be shortened, other than maybe to Claud.

I think Esme is very popular so would avoid that personally.

I love Cecilia Juliet - both were on my girls list!

Anyway, I think we have similar taste in names and I love Imogen and Alice but Eleanor is my favourite from your list.

Love esme and rare where we live in the north

forkhandles4candles · 07/08/2016 22:31

Love them all except for Lara. Prefer Clara. Claudia I always want to say the euro way...cloudier.

ovosmexidos · 07/08/2016 22:33

I really like Esme.

Magazinepile · 07/08/2016 22:34

How would you pronounce Claudia? Like a clOUd or Santa clAUs?

Eliza is my fave I also like Lara and Esme and Eloise! XSmile

strawberrypenguin · 07/08/2016 22:36

I like Eleanor but I've never heard of it being shortened to Ellen.
Be aware Charlotte could easily become Charlie. Likewise Christina (which I also really like) has several nickname options. Indeed you never can tell what nicknames they will pick up from friends!

My favourite three are Imogen, Christina and Sophia.

Yika · 07/08/2016 22:40

Christina isn't so usual these days and is quite different from your other DDs' names so that's the one I'd choose.

Sophia and Claudia are also quite distinct from the others.

Eliza could shorten to Liza - too like Lia.
Lara and Lia also sounds matchy.
Imogen could shorten to Immy - too like Emma.
Esme and Ellen also too similar sounding to Emma to me.

How about Miranda or Georgia?

justdontevenfuckingstart · 07/08/2016 22:41

Bob, or Ellodine

applesvpears · 07/08/2016 22:43

I love Sophia. Our Isabella was nearly a Sophia.

Loyly · 07/08/2016 22:46

Love these from your list:
Claudia
Sophia
Christina
Imogen

Lilacpink40 · 07/08/2016 22:48

Lara Elouise Sinclair

shalalala · 07/08/2016 23:01

We've just named our little girl Eleanor and we love it

WildwestWind · 07/08/2016 23:19

Tough decision! Really like Imogen and think its important that each child has its own initial - my girls got really cross one Valentine's day when a card was addressed to Miss S Wildwestwind and they never found out who the intended recipient was.

Bear2014 · 08/08/2016 13:49

Eleanor is my favourite but would probably go for Imogen as Eleanor perhaps to similar to Emma and good for each child to have their own initial as PP have said.

SeashellHoarder · 09/08/2016 22:15

Of your list my favourite is Sophia.
I love the names you already have, and each one is distinctive, and special in its own way.
To make sure this baby has the same, I would choose a different initial to the others, but something in the same style
Eg
Georgina
Josephine
Jemima
Mariella
