Indian/English boys names

Hey all,

My DH and I are trying to find a name for our boy (24 weeks pregnant so a while to go yet). Our baby will be half Indian (Hindu), half English - ideally looking for a name that works in both cultures but also happy with an Indian or English name that is easy to pronounce for everyone and sounds ok in either language, if that makes sense.

I'm finding it quite difficult to find names that I feel enthusiastic about. My fav so far is Ashwin.

Any ideas?

Is there any way you choose a name in the Hindu faith? For example we open our " book " and we pick the first letter of the start of the verse, then choose a name from that letter. What about any family names? Granddad/uncles etc?

I love Anil.

Pendu Stricter Hindus wait for the baby to be born, check various astrological things about the day and time of birth and then get a choice of 2-3 letters that the name should start with. My parents did this, got shit letters and went with something else! Hindus don't tend to use family names but there's no prohibition on it.

I hate having such a large extended family... I really like a lot of these suggestions but most have been nabbed by my cousins!

How about reading any texts / history for inspiration? I based my dcs names on saints who had special days around that time (like ds 1 was due st. Patrick's day or a saint with a special " role)
I watch too much star plus and there is some great names but they escape me now ... It might give you some ideas?

1horatio · 06/07/2016 22:26

Rohan, Samir, Arun, Kiran, Vikram, Amit or Vinod?
My uncle's name is Vinod. He used to live in the UK and now lives in Switzerland. He never had problems with his name... I really like Ashwin, Kiran and Arun, tbh.

midsomermurderess · 07/07/2016 11:51

Hari, Rahul, Sachin.

manlurking · 09/07/2016 08:22

Hari was the one i thought of. We went with Alexander wondering how my wife's side would say it but it's fine as they all know Alexander the Great from school. We joke number 2 will be David as they all know Beckham, he won't.

I like Adnan and Kamil
