Modern version of Leonard for girl or boy.

My husband was very close to his grandad whose names was Leonard. I love the idea of using this as the basis for a middle name but I'd prefer a more up to date version.

Ideas for girl and boy names would be great.

Leo for a boy and Leona for a girl maybe?

My friend was very close to his grandfather who was a Leonard. They went with Leon, which I think is lovely. However, when they told his grandmother they'd named their son after her late husband, thinking she'd be thrilled, she was a bit nonplussed and said 'Why would you want to do that? Anyway he was Leonard, not Leon!'

I quite like Leonard actually, it must be due a revival.

You could also consider Lena for a girl (Lay-na) which could give nickname Lenny.
I love Leo, Leon and Leonie too.
