Lyla, Lila, or Lilah? HELP!!!

I really like the name. I just don't know which way to spell it, and which is the cutest or most popular version. What is your preference?

If you want the prononciation Lie-la, as opposed to Lil-a, then the Lyla spelling would seem to be the only one to guarantee this by my reading. Equally, I would only pronounce Lilah as Lil-ah. The middle Lila is probably more correct but is the most ambiguous, it could be read either way.

I like Lila. I remember the character from Sweet Valley Twins and always thought it was a cool name

So funny you mention Sweet Valley High - my friends and I always had huge rows over whether she was Lil-a or Lie-la!

I have a Lilah and still think it's kind of the most beautiful names I've ever heard .

We decided to spell it 'Lilah' as Lila kept getting pronounced Lilla or Leela and Lyla was from the Oasis song.

It's an Arabic/Hebrew name and an Israeli friend told me its transliterated as 'Lilach' from the Hebrew 'night' as opposed to 'Lylach'

Lilah or Lila look lovely written down, but Lyla not so much for some reason. I don't think you'd have a problem with pronunciation, people will quickly learn which way you want it.

Whichever spelling you use DD will get Qs about spelling all her life. Awful name!

Although you love the name, the fact you are on here asking how to spell/pronounce it means your dd will have these exact conversations as she grows up.

As a person with a similar name/pronunciation issues, please don't do it. It's very annoying (certificates/ attendance lists spelt wrong, name being called out incorrectly etc) and has followed me through childhood and remains with me still now

DD's never had a problem....

I on the other hand have a name I constantly need to spell for people and it's not even that unusual

Lila is the favourite for me. Lilah is okay, Lyla doesn't look right to me.

But i agree with pps, you may get different pronounciations - Lee-lah, Lie-lah, Lill-ah (although i would say it Lie-lah)

I like Lilah but Lila is also fine. Not a fan of Lyla.

It's the baby names board, posters can give frank opinions without proposing alternatives! My DCs' names are regularly disliked by some posters, that's how it goes

But I like Lila a tiny bit more than that, because, as PP said, of Sweet Valley Twins / High.
