Names like Hazel

Husband and I are really struggling with a name for our DD (due November)... thought we'd cracked it with Hazel but husband is now unsure!

We're looking for strong, non-cutesy names with a traditional feel that aren't too popular. Surname is three syllables and begins with A which puts a lot of A ending names out.

Any help hugely appreciated! Smile

totally agree about Hazel being odd with blue eyes

Confused

Surely most people would associate it with the tree?

coppergrey · 18/06/2016 19:15

Mitzy yes, maybe... but to me it says colour. I didn't even think of the tree till you mentioned it! I guess people will interpret it different ways.

Thanks all so much for so many options - loads to go back to husband with! Really appreciate it Flowers

Hazel is top of my list for next baby if a girl. We have a Tess, which I think is in similar vein :)

Alyxs Confused never heard of that before! Quite cool!

What about Elizabeth? I've got one and I was't sure at first, but it's massively grown on me. It's spiky, v unusual now and passes the judge/surgeon/prime minister test.

ClinkyMonkey · 19/06/2016 01:42

My aunt is called Hazel and has blue eyes - never thought about it. Some family members say the name suits her because she's a nut!

I love Hazel. I know only two, a thirty-something and a blue-eyed infant.

Hyacinth
Blossom,
Willow,
And I'm going to suggest Connie, I know it has no association with flowers or autumn, however I think its a beautifully old and under used name.

catsofa · 20/06/2016 00:10

DS would have been Hazel if he'd been a girl. I also liked Holly, which is maybe not too "out there" for your DP.

coppergrey · 20/06/2016 15:34

Thanks again for so many great suggestions - I've noted my favourites but I think I'll save them for next time... husband has slowly come around to Hazel and I think it's back on the table now! Hooray!

My mothers name was Hazel. My eldest daughter has it as a middle name. Go for it.

DarkBlueEyes · 20/06/2016 16:03

Ps mum had bright blue eyes as does my daughter. It's neither here nor there.

HippyPottyMouth · 21/06/2016 08:58

My DH took a while to come round to Hazel but he got there in the end. I loved Sylvia and Lydia but he wouldn't consider either. My Hazel is nearly 3 now, with brown eyes. She's brilliant. Brenda and Pauline don't have the same feel to me at all.
