What does the name Jasper make you think of? And do you like it?

I've never met one, so don't have any particular associations. I think I quite like it...

(I had a dream before I was pregnant with DC2 that we had a son called Jasper. And then I thought, ooh, actually, that's quite nice! But not in a woo-I-dreamed-the-name-so-that's-what-it-must-be way, just in a hadn't-considered-it way. DC1 is a girl and it wasn't on the list had she been a boy. Too early to know the sex of this one so it might be a moot point!)

Jazz reminds me of the 1990s aftershave. It was the one teenage boys graduated to after Lynx.

PlanBwastaken · 09/06/2016 15:05

Twilight! (sorry)
I don't think it'll be an issue as he grows up, Little Women it ain't...

LadyAntonella · 09/06/2016 15:07

Jazz just reminds me of jazz... Ok now I think about it also Hondas... But anyway, I still like it.

ShmackAttack · 09/06/2016 15:10

I have a Jasper so am biased we love the name and it suits the cheeky little devil and its not been shortened yet, and it is a semi precious stone which is lovely.

EmmaWoodlouse · 10/06/2016 16:35

I quite like it as a collection of sounds, but I do definitely associate it with upper-class people...

SeafrontDreams · 10/06/2016 16:38

I know a baby Jasper, the only one I've met. I don't think it sounds too posh, it's cute.

Coldtoeswarmheart · 10/06/2016 16:38

It's a slang name for wasps round here.

Laquila · 10/06/2016 16:41

I like it but I think I prefer Caspar. I do love Jasper Carror though.

Spudlet · 10/06/2016 16:44

I knew a pony called Jasper. He was a cool little pony.

Bonobosown · 10/06/2016 16:45

I don't like it but it's a lot better than Caspar.

MumOnACornishFarm · 10/06/2016 23:05

It's not amongst my favourites, and I far prefer Caspar/Casper. I know one Jasper and his mother is desperate to be seen as posh, which makes me cringe. She sees Jasper as a 'posh' name.Confused I don't.

ShmackAttack · 10/06/2016 23:34

To add it's also not posh we are as far removed from posh as is possible

MitzyLeFrouf · 11/06/2016 19:10

It's a bit 'wannabe posh' to me. Like Tarquin.

SoThatHappened · 11/06/2016 19:22

Dogs name

HyacinthBouquetNo1 · 11/06/2016 19:26

It is a dog name, never met any person called Jasper, sorry

pleasethankyouthankyouplease · 11/06/2016 19:27

I like it. But I also like Monty , Felix and Tabitha and everyone says they're pet names too. Jazz would be a bit naff ...

PaintedDrivesAndPolishedGrass · 11/06/2016 19:32

Makes me think of Jasper Tudor, uncle of Henry VII. Lovely name😊

pieceofpurplesky · 11/06/2016 19:50

Wasps. A wasp is known as a jasper round here (North West)

Lottiedaydreambeliever2014 · 14/06/2016 15:47

I'm from the north west and never heard of wasps being called Jasper where I lived growing up. The Tudor link sold the name for me, sad I know. Smile It doesn't really matter if other people don't like your name choice if you are sure it's your favourite.

Laniakea · 14/06/2016 19:06

I've got a 10yo Jasper & I know a couple of others. To me its strongest associations are as a Persian name or with Jasper Tudor.

I don't think it is particularly posh (though MIL raised an eyebrow when she first heard it) or unusual ... it is still pretty much my favourite boys' name :)

Laniakea · 14/06/2016 19:08

oh he's usually Jasper but sometimes Jas (or Jay) which he quite likes!
